I like it more than Between the Buttons, which I have never been able to enjoy. But, in all honesty, I rarely feel like listening to it. In retrospect, it is critical for one reason -- I think that Mick and Keith listened to it and said "WTF were we thinking?!" and got back to doing what they do best. It basically kickstarted the band's best period from JJF to Exile.
I'm really happy for you. It took you 40 years after the release date to purchase this Album. What's next? Beggars Banquet next year? You will have a great year to come. Enjoy it.
The genuine cockney of Bill is more compatible with the part-time-slow psychedelic groove on IAL.
"I stoo' an' 'eld yow 'and"
IN ANOTHER LAND (B.Wyman)
In another land where the breeze and the Trees and flowers were blue I stood and 'eld your 'and. And the grass grew high and the feathers floated by I stood and 'eld your 'and. And nobody else's 'and will ever do Nobody else will do Then I awoke Was this some kind of joke Much to my surprise I opened my eyes.
We walked across the sand and the sea and The sky and the castles were blue. I stood and held your hand. And the spray flew high and the feathers floated by I stood and 'eld your 'and. And nobody else's hand will ever do Nobody else will do Then I awoke Was this some kind of joke Much to my surprise When I opened my eyes.
We heard the trumpets blow and the sky Turned red when I accidently said That I didn't know how I came to be here Not fast asleep in bed. I stood and 'eld your 'and. And nobody else's 'and will ever do Nobody else's 'and Then I awoke Was this some kind of joke I opened my eyes. Much to my surprise.

hm: is it a matter of opinion? among other objective facts, having their liberty seriously threatened was a pretty major distraction. i agree 1967 was an astonishing year considering all the uproar going on, which would very likely have been the end of most bands - and sure, Satanic was their first foray into self-production - but where are you getting the songwriting statistics?? (the material on Buttons and Flowers wasn't written in 67 - but that's surely obvious.)

Never checked but how do you know the pressing date? Is it listed on the album somewhere. I have it as well along with many others but never paid any attention to the dates. Is it listed in a defined location such as a copyright date for a book?
If you listen the the 8 CD set of Majesty outtakes you can hear that they wrote some terrific songs. I have the feeling they went a little overboard when mixing the album in the end, with the senseless jams like Gomper. I think they listened a bit too much to Pepper's, and the psychedelics went a little to their head. But still, there's some great songs to be found on the album.
