Time Waits For No One - live?

Anyone know if the Stones ever played this live. I don't think they ever did and it would be great to hear live at the 02.

The Stones never touched this gem. Only during the forty licks rehearsels in 2002.

Mick Taylor had the guts to play it live. Both shows in Holland November 17 and 18 2006.

Songs like Time Waits, and Winter were rehearsed in 2002 but they add to do another arrangement to cover up the fact that they do not have Mick Taylor to play the melodic wonderment and glistening scales up and down the fretboard.

play that guitar boy.

no Taylor vs. Wood debate intendet, but same way as I cannot imagine Taylor playing Whip Comes Down, Respectable and others there are certain songs I cannot imagine Woody playing and Time Waits For No One is surely one of them.

its a pity because one imagines that a Stones guitar man should be able to perform all their material, but in reality it isnt so. sometimes it just doesnt fit, for example Moonlight Mile in No Security tour was nice but never really took off.

Yes, star crossed in pleasure the stream flows on by
Yes, as we're sated in leisure, we watch it fly

And time waits for no one, and it won't wait for me
And time waits for no one, and it won't wait for me

Time can tear down a building or destroy a woman's face
Hours are like diamonds, don't let them waste

Time waits for no one, no favours has he
Time waits for no one, and he won't wait for me

Men, they build towers to their passing yes, to their fame everlasting
Here he comes chopping and reaping, hear him laugh at their cheating

And time waits for no man, and it won't wait for me
Yes, time waits for no one, and it won't wait for me

Drink in your summer, gather your corn
The dreams of the night time will vanish by dawn

And time waits for no one, and it won't wait for me
And time waits for no one, and it won't wait for me

No no no, not for me....

It´s Only Rock´n Roll

The only way I'd want to hear them do this is with Mick Taylor guesting on guitar.

I don't know....I think Taylor is far from the guitarist he used to be, too.

my two cents

time waits for no one is one of the best album tracks the stones have in their catalogue

it would be nice to hear, so that it could see the light of day. at least that they give it a shot.

personally i think it could be pulled off, BUT i don't think the stones doing this song in 2007 would have the same impact than the stones in 75-80 would.

plus, its a great album tune, but the overly simply drum work, strings and taylor solo wouldn't make it amazing at a 70 000 seat stadium.

that said, lets hope it pops up.

Honest Ron could definitely handle this. Who would have thought he could have handled the hallowed turf that is CYHMK?

Interesting.
And this is why all the Taylor/Wood debates are a total waste of time and fail to miss the whole point of the Rolling Stones !
The Stones are about being what they are now...not about sounding like they used to sound 35 years ago.
The personel is in a way irrelevent...and if material comes accross differently today by accident or by design...it's all for the better and keeps the band vital.
And it's why they're NOT an "oldies band" or "nostalgia act" ;^)

What makes you think that? I think Ronnie outshone Mick Taylor on Can't You Hear Me Knocking several times.

Well.... Mick Taylor is a great guitarplayer, but the solo on TWFNO is very overrated I think. Mick only runs an A-minor scale up and down all the way. He played many soloes far better than this one.

Edit: But "Time Waits" for sure is a lovely song!

Along with Winter and the entire 5 X 5 EP, it would certainly be the centrepiece of my own personal dream setlist.

If you agree that Keith often massacred SFTD,but - no :this is useless,I like the
versions I heard of CYHMK very much and Ronnie played wonderful .

For sure you can find some error versions, but it´s live,I don´t mind mistakes,
if I want it all clean and proper I stay at home ,listening to the Sticky Fingers,
dreaming of the so called good old times........,

Classic songs like CYHMK, Sway, TWFNO....if you can't master these live, you certainly can't be called The Greatest R&R Band in the World.

The Stones are one of the only BIG name bands, that I can think of, that can't reproduce live, what they do in the studio. Strange.

When they try to reproduce on stage what they do in studio like the Steel Wheel Tour, the stones are more focused and personally I prefer when they get wild. Then we get different versions of their songs which is fascinating; that is why their music is always changing. Pink Floyd , the eagles etc... are good at reproducing what they do in studio and that requires a special skill but rock and roll is a living beast,no sense trying to control it.

I agree...R&R is a living beast on a wild ride down the highway, never knowing what route the song will go down...I don't think The Stones are capable of taking the wild ride.

Two bands that come to mind, that take a song to the unexpected are Led Zep and The Dead. Jimmy and Jerry are friggin pilots with no flight plan, but you eventually get you to where you need to go. I never got that feeling from Keith and Ronnie, that doesn't stop me from going to their shows in hopes of one day, boarding that flight.

I don't like shows that play a song exactly how it is on the album...very boring, I would imagine for the Artists as well as the audience.

I do have the say, I think the Stones are phenomenal in the studio.

Dont know if I'd agree with his live efforts on CYHMK vs the studio version, although thats really a bit of an unfair comparison (I thought he generally handled it pretty well....especially Wembley 03)

Whats telling however is that when the song was first released, they made such a mess of it (by their own admission) when attempting to perform it live that the song was duly dropped from their show for another 31 years.

do you think they avoided these songs because they're hard, or because they just didn't think they were suited to a live show? And you're blurring the issue of playing them then vs. now... now, gem-hungry fans expect them to pull out songs they probably haven't even listened to in 30 years. It's almost always disappointing when they do. They don't have the same relationship to the songs that the fans do, for the most part.

on topic for the post, I'm glad they never played "TWFNO" live, since I don't care for the studio cut either.
