o2 thread can be posted in one day?

with the amount of 'win tickets to see the Stones at 02 Arena' competitions going on i reckon they've sold about 5,000 seats

Only a few nosebleed seats left. But even the nosebleed seats are good in the very intimate O2 arena.

My understanding is that the actual capacity is 20,000.
It depends to an extent on the stage configuration, I guess...
Prince is playing in the round, for example, so I expect the capacity is a bit smaller on the nights he playing there.

B*llshit is the upper tier good, I was at the O2 on Saturday and it must be like, oppsssss watch out for the jumbo jet that just flew past my right ear.......

I could not comprehend how high up those damn seats were; even worse than in the photos that have been in circulation.

All these fraudulent marketing claims about not a bad seat in the house, blah, blah, blah, you have to be on drugs to believe that once you have been to the place.

Floor seats or Lower tier or forget it....

SD

P.S. I have never seen capacity figures quoted at less than 23,000 for the O2.

Hi There,

'Fraid SD is right about the 'no bad seat' nonsense as claimed by the O2 hypesters.

While I'm about it,can I join the queue of people who are on the lookout for an absolutely superb single ticket to both/either the Tuesday and Thursday shows-yeah,I know there is more chance of Charlie letting me sit in for a couple of songs!

Cheers,

Si.

COMPLETELY agree, I was at the O2 on Friday last (10th Aug) for Prince. Floor or lower tiers (even in the case of lower tiers up to the top row - Z) are OK, but the Upper tiers ... f f f f f f f f f*** off and f f f f f f f f forget it. You're in the stratosphere up there. "Not a bad seat in the house" the O2 publicity machine would have you believe ? BOLLOCKS, 100 percent BOLLOCKS !!!

Hmm...23,000 capacity, biggest indoor venue in Europe, warnings on TM that the nosebleeds arent recommended for those with vertigo

How are those 'good' and how is the venue 'very intimate' ? Youve been there?

Looks like it ain't gonna be like the upper tier at the Glasgow Apollo ? Sounds as if it is gonna be higher.

23,000 seats would make it larger than almost any arena I can think of in the US, correct? Maybe Staples center is about that big, but the Forum was 17505, and I always thought those upper level seats sucked.

"It is one of the largest indoor arenas in Europe. It has a capacity of up to 23,000 for in the round events in an oblong shaped layout with 360 degrees seating."
[en.wikipedia.org]

Prince reportedly played to a "20,000 capacity crowd at the O2" on August 1st.
I would think the capacity for the Stones concerts will be around 18-20k.

F...! I have an upper tier ticket. Should I sell it and hope for a better one or what? How high can these seats be in a 20.000 arena?

HIGH. Sell it and go lower, seriously. You just do not need to be up there.

There is clearly a whole section, ie one end that the RS won't use because of the stage, so that must take it down to 20,000 max.

from a financial point of view, personally, it was a case of nosebleeds
or not going.

I understand, all I was saying was that I too was genuinely shocked at exactly HOW high up there those upper tiers are, in as much as I was by the same token kind of pleasantly surprised at how reasonable even the "upper rows" (say rows V/W/X/Y/Z) of the lower tiers are in terms of the view they offer and the feeling that you're actually NOT that high above the floor/stage area. I think it's because BETWEEN the top of the lower tiers and the bottom of the uppper tiers there's a gap; it's basically an entire 1st floor level where all the bars/toilets are. You enter the entire lower tier seating area from the top; i.e that 1st floor level, NOT from the bottom - that is to say ground level. It's that 1st floor level that adds height, because the upper tiers start above it, and standing anywhere either on the floor or within the lower tiers - by the time you cast your eyes up to the top of those upper tiers ... you really do get the sense that it's some way up there in altitude terms. I didn't go up there myself to see what the view was like from up top, but if you've ever been way up to the standing area at the highest point of the Albert Hall, I guess it would be vaguely similar to that.

Anyway, I was kinda responding to Sonic Dreamer's post, as below:

Between the upper and lower tiers are two levels of corporate hostility boxes...

Staples is about 20,000. There are quite a few cities in the US with arena sized venues of a similar size, but few tend to be much more than that. the 02 was actually modelled on the Staples Centre.

I've seen the UC Centre in Chicago listed on IORR as seating 25,000 but the ticket sales for the shows there in 2006 doesnt indicate that. It can seat over 23,000 for pro wrestling though - [en.wikipedia.org]

the o2 can hold up to 23,000 - [en.wikipedia.org] - but with the Stones shows being all seated and allowing for the reduced seating capacity due to having the b-stage configuration, its probably around 20-21,000.

interesting bit of trivia I just noticed. the interior design for the suites in the complex were designed by someone called Christopher Ciccone - Madonna's brother,

23.000 . Almost as much as the LTU arena in Düsseldorf
Wouldn't call that quite intimate

Yes, good point. I KNEW there was something else that I'd briefly noticed that effectively separated the lower and upper tiers, and you're correct - it's those corporate boxes.

Hey Paulywaul, see you on Tuesday, maybe - I think I'm in the row in front of you. I'll be wearing my IORR t-shirt, let's see if I'm the only one in the row that is!

For those of you with seats in the 400 levels, I have always thought of it this way. Even the worst seat in the crappiest Arena (think top of Amesterdam Arena, near that fiberglass roof)-- as long as you're watching the stones, it's better than almost anything else I can think of.

maybe that was the crowd figure for that show, but the venue holds 51,000 for football.
