The original "Sea of Love" -- yeah, I found it. It's kinda creepy in a way.

"That's the day I knew you were my pet" ?

That comes across to me in the same fashion as "Every Breath You Take", which isn't about love -- it's about posessiveness and obsession.

...Everybody's got it wrong...the ULTIMATE LOVE SONG is "Too Drunk to F*ck" by The Dead Kennedys..... have it somewhere as a single in my "put away vinyl collection"... "Down in the Hole" on Emotional Rescue is a good love song....

OK, OK, seriously...

DARLING BE HOME SOON - Lovin' Spoonful

ALL MY LOVE/TEN YEARS GONE/THANK YOU/DANCING DAYS - Led Zeppelin

ISLANDS IN THE STREAM/WORDS/TO LOVE SOMEBODY - Bee Gees

MAYBE I'M AMAZED - Paul McCartney (NOT WINGS Kids - it was on his first solo album)

JULIA - John Lennon/Beatles White Album - what a tear jerker

DAYS - The Kinks

LOVE ME TENDER - "E" (Elvis for the kids that don't know the "E" thing)

THE CRYSTAL SHIP/HELLO,I LOVE YOU/WISHFUL SINFUL - Jimbo and the Doors

NEVER TEAR US APART/AFTERGLOW - INXS

ALL I WANT IS YOU/DESIRE - U2

Elvis is the ultimate love song singer.
AFTER LOVING YOU (Memphis session '69) would be my favourite.

So true Frank, Don't know why Ray kinda seems to screw it up everytime they play it live and it's "officially" released.... I think I have about 3 or 4 different versions and it's never quite right... maybe it "hits the spot" a little to close so he wants to kinda get goofy with it... There's an Elvis Costello version of DAYS from the Wim Wender film "UNTIL THE END OF THE WORLD" - masterpiece STILL not out on DVD - which is really great, very haunting kinda vibe to it (which works really well in the film).....

All in all - most love songs suck - while a small percentage of them are terrific.
