I personally hate playing such similar lists every night and hope I can get him to open up some…we’ll see.

He's such a coward, our Mick....

Chuck is right on the money here. Gotta love the man for a statement like that.

Keep on him Chucky. After playing with a band like the Allman Bros, its a big change to come to the Stones and play the same stuff all the time, especially frustrating since they have maybe 300 more songs to choose from than the Allmans.

"Mick wants familiar songs and ones that folks can sing along to. Belgrade, Bucharest, Budapest, Warsaw, St. Petersburg….but I think he’ll get a bit tired of doing the same ‘ol thing soon and maybe I can get at least a “Monkey Man” or “Sway” in somewhere. But likely that won’t change much until we get to the Scandinavian countries where we played last year."

Sounds great as I'm going to all the scandinavian shows! Monkey Man would be perfect.

Hey T&A, good to hear from you again. Often enjoyed talking back and forth with you in the past on some of these threads. I take little breaks here and there from making posts as well, but I always check in here to see if I am missing anything.

or SFM. i mean even at 10 warhorses a night, there are at least a couple of them that they are not even bothering with anymore and could be used in a rotational way with the others. in all honesty, i never thought it would get THIS bad and I thought it would get pretty bad....

Re: From Chuck:

I got to hear ADTL, Love Is Strong,
Paint It Black & Rambler as well as Miss You & ONNYA.
Also got to hear Silver & the spectacular new intro to Brown Sugar winking smiley

I dont reckon the former socialist republic citizens
fins the setlists boring or bad. The Polish hadnt seen'em
since 1967 for an instance...
Also wanna add they put new life into the warhorses at least in Brno.

It's also the first time that 'Chuck says so openly and with a rather strong word (hate) what he thinks about the setlist. I fully agree with him.

i dont mind the stones doing say 5 or 6 warhorses per show, but they tend to do more than that.

and i hate the fact that

honky tonk woman
its only rock and roll
start me up
tumbling dice

are considered warhorses.

they could be rotated several times

start me up/neighbours/shattered.

its only rock and roll/if you cant rock me/sad sad sad.

honky tonk woman/live with me/stray cat blues.

tumbling dice/happy/soul survivor.

Hope Chuck knocks some sense into Mick, I can't think of any of the band with as many songs as the Stones yet plays the same ones. Almost half of their catelog has never been performed live. Not that it means anything but I have heard other musicians like Steve Miller (who I am not a fan of) knock the Stones for their repetitive set lists.

that may be - but that's hardly the point of this discussion. Chuck is basically acknowledging what everybody must already realize - the BAND itself is bored with it. How could you not? You can't go to work day in and out for 2 decades and do the same thing without going crazy (which probably why they are doing that cover now, now that i think about it).....

it will be interesting to see what they deliver in London given they played there last year and there are 3 shows in one week.

To Mick's credit, given the mistakes being made on stage, I would stay with the songs they know too. He is the one out there saving theoir ass every night.

i've always said that was the underlying rationale - not the one they want you to believe. can't teach an old band new songs, or something....

Hey Lorenz,

Is that a quote from Chuck's diary?

If it is...his days are numbered winking smiley

It is a shame that they don't dig a little deeper.
(If not show to show...at least tour to tour)

We know that they rehearse dozens and dozens of songs..so it's
not like we're asking for something that they can't do.

I'm sure Mick is afraid that if it's not wall to wall warhorses....the
stadium attendance will suffer. I think it is still a huge feather
in Mick's hat to be able to say that they "sell out" or play stadiums.
There aren't many (if any) that can say that these days...especially
year after year.

IORR............but I like it!

Hey neo,

Yeah, it's from his diary. Actually i pressed "post" before I finished writing what I wanted to write so it looks unfinished. I agree with what you said, btw.
