Stones Masterpiece album & song?
Date: July 29, 2007 23:17

What would everyone consider as the Stones "Masterpiece" i.e. entire album and individual song?

My vote goes for "Let it Bleed" as their Masterpiece album/CD and "You can't always get what you want" for their Masterpiece composition.

There are 9 songs on this album and each one is a classic in its own right.
This recording magically captures the era of the late 1960's and it flows beautifully from beginning of play through the end.

It only makes sense the Masterpiece album generated the Masterpiece single composition "You can't always get what you want"
The arrangment, lyrics, choir, horns, acoustic guitar, percussion, rhythm, tempo and Jagger's vocalization driving this piece of work encompasses everything the Stones and contemporary music were during that particular era and have transcended for almost 40 years.

Beggars Banquet, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street are right up there, but I give the nod to Let it Bleed.

I would not choose LET IT BLEED because in the strict sense Midight rambler and Love in vain are rather boring on the album but were great in concert. Therefrore it depends whether you regard the studio album or if you think of the latter concert performances. The studio version of Midnight rambler would never have made a Stones classic, that's up to the live versions, form Hyde Park through Leeds and Brussels to the present day.
Never liked Monkey man, though - just silly! In my opinion this is one of the worst Stones songs.

Quite the music critic aren't we? Well those are your opinions....
In MY opinion Midnight Rambler and Monkey Man are classics, sublime jewels. Midnight Rambler is a great song and I love that it is so different live....Love in Vain boring studio??! No way, it is a beautiful song, with so many interesting layers that elevate it from just a basic blues tune. And that mandolin solo by Rye is sublime...
Let Bleed is indeed a classic and many new stone's fans think it is a greatest hits disc...CLASSIC!

Midnight Rambler is never boring. Studio version pales only vs itself played live. But fits perfectly into a supreme album

Has to be the "most right" answer. GS on Let it bleed is their greatest song, the one that never ever grows old or dated.
