I don't have a scanner,so I can't do it as cool as the Rockman, but anyway...

From the Keith bio 'Satisfaction' by Christopher Sandford:

Next up, in Kansas, Mick Taylor appeared. The reunion overexited him - according to Wood, 'He shocked us with how loud he was blasting it...bulldozing through parts of songs that should have been subtle, ignoring breaks and taking uninvited solos.' Reviewing the show in later years, Keith's smoky voice turned into steel. 'That fvcker.'

ronnie's still trying to do his set for him; some things never change i guess.
and taylor is still brilliant; some things never change i guess.

kinda cheap shot for ron to tell the public that taylor wrote him a letter saying he was depressed and lacked confidence and had money issues...he came back from H, thank god, who knows how hard his 'bottom' must have been...i'm not gonna psychoanalze the guy...i think that quote makes ronnie look bad...like a real syncophant imo..."well it's like keith said...." kinda magazine fodder shite...

taylor was a man in the stones. not a suckup, and he's still got class to spare...a gentleman on the charles watts level to be sure.
which is kind of extremely gentleman of gentlemen imo...

i recall sometimes keith giving the famous shout and sneer in taylor's direction; taylor dosen't even bother to look up at him; i love that...

just like when ron flicks a cig at mick's back sometimes on stage...it's fun...
taylor knew what he was doing; he knew what the job was...and the trash talk only started after he departed...until then keith was talking of him like "this angel!"
so...grow on up boyz...be grateful taylor left you so much powerful musical thrust and history to try and replicate each night...

ron's had his indelicate moments, let's say...in a lot of regards personally and professionally and financially and healthwise and otherwise...
...but i won't drudge them up because the last thing i want is another of these damn silly and senseless him vs. him wars...

this quote was one of those indelicate moments, tho i don't know if it's been printed out of context or edited as magazine pieces almost ALWAYS do, so i don't want to get on ron because of it...

he should have said 'mick taylor introduced me to keith and mick again and again & again, suggested me, promoted me and i would like to really thank him for the loyalty, support and job placement...'

when the rubber meets the road, we know who's got the power to spare. nuff said.
some girls i tell ya...bitch bitch bitch.

i don't know the specifics, i don't even care that much at this point...
but to blame the mix and the amp volume on taylor; to the point of keith threatening him with death etc...is crap...they have six zillion techs if they want to get it right and tight...if they wanted him mixed IN, and monitored correctly...and it sure looks they are all having a ball in that pic...

i ain't claiming to know...i only found about the kansas thing a year ago and it's still hazy to me as a historical event from afar....

relax keith, relax ronnie, everybody in the world has to go sleep each night, with the POSSIBLE exception of clapton, freddie king, beck, page and a few others, knowing that taylor could outcook almost every other human being who owns a guitar with just a few notes...
and on the slide...fuggedaboutit...he can't be touched.

taylor could have and still COULD cash in like crazy on a 'tell all' that he wouldn't even have to write...just sign the contract and the check...unlike some others i could name in the rock and roll business, desperately trying whatever sideline gigs at whatever to gather more $$$, with a direct, or vague stones imprimateur...
... taylor keeps his mouth shut; present a calm and beautiful spirit to the press...a gentlemanly picture of grace, evenhandness and direct sweetness...

dosen't bitch, dosen't cash in on the cheap shot...and can play better than practically any human being on the planet...
easily up there, or surpassing clapton, page, beck...the cream of the crop...

and classy too...has ron done a portrait of taylor btw?
just curious. would he need approval? surely there is one somewhere, no?
could someone paste it please?

So maybe Keith was (or wasn't) pissed off at Taylor in '81.

Keep in mind that he had him play on "Talk Is Cheap" a couple years later.

(At John Phillips behest I suppose...)

I read what Ron Wood said years ago but isn't it peculiar that Keith got upset about Mick Taylor who was not allowed to plug his guitar into the Stones mixing board? So possibly he was made responsible for something which he could not help because if the sound is mixed by the technicians they are responsible for the overall sound and not the guitarist. Have you ever seen Keith or Ronnie turn up their guitars during a big show? Perhaps Mick Taylor really was irritated about the stage sound.

They did: in London, Astoria 2003. Taylor was due to appear for Rock Me Baby, but Jagger cancelled the song halfway the set due to a shot voice.

About Taylor's schedualed PPV performance in Hampton: this was set-up by Jagger and Bill Graham, according to Graham, Ian McLagan and Bill Wyman. And yes, on that tour Jagger vetoed Keith on a couple of occasions, and even arranged several things behind Keith's back. Read the Bill Graham book.

And again, this story about Taylor not being allowed to play over the mixing board is just pure nonsense. Question: do you hear Taylor's solo and slide on Black Limo on the soundboard tape? Yes. Case closed, Taylor is playing over th PA and mixer.

Well Mathijs, I haven't heard this tape that you speak of so I can't comment. However, I also read a Ron Wood comment about this Kansas show. As I recall, it was in a book of Ronnie's artwork and next to the pictures he had comments, memories about the particular picture.

I seem to recall there was some comment that MT was playing way too loud, taking uninvited solos and according to Ronnie playing some songs in the wrong key. Ronnie's comment was that MT had forgotten that the Stones had moved on and were playing songs differently to the way they used to be played. I find Ronnie's claim doubtful but if this is true, I can only assume that MT couldn't hear himself play.

Which book is that you`re speaking of, Mathijs? Sounds interesting.

According to Mick T. no. He was in their hotel to get a pass
but he was not about to play. At least that's what Mick said.
(though an additional amp was on stage and there are two setlists,
one with Rock Me Baby and second without, mine had Rock Me baby on it).

I wonder if they still jam nowadays.

I read an interview with Bill a couple of years ago, and he said that he still regularly met the Stones and jammed with them.

keith & ronnie probably joke to one another talking about Taylor and how he doesn't have any cash etc.. and how he left the band etc..

Well hey both have egg on their face...there's only one player out of the 3 of them who can actually play a good guitar, the other 2 want to roll around in their cash !!!

Money ain't everything....well with the Stones it seems to be....

with all the respect to mick taylor....you cannot compare the riffmaster himself with mick taylor. mick t. may be the better guitarplayer, but it´s the song that counts....i am not aware of any mick t. songs that kick ass like the stones songs do....

There`s no such thing as a good/better guitar player. If you want fast playing, go see Yngwie Malmsteen. If you want flawless expressive soloing, go see Clapton. If you want both, go see Lukather. They`re all gifted musicians!!

But my favorite guitarist is Keith Richards. There`s a magic touch..!! He speaks through his guitar..

if he's speaking through his guitar, then these days he's speaking shit because that is what both players are sounding like...

Alexs - How many of Mick Taylor's songs have you listened to lately?

Can you name some from his last CD ?? probably not.

There are a few tunes on his CD that compare with anything the Stones or
any of their solo projects put out.. so that not the point.

Keith is a big fan of Mick Taylor's guitar playing abilities - enough said.

I like Taylors solo albums but can't help to laugh at this statement. Do you really feel Taylor has written songs that are as good or comparable with say Jumpin Jack Flash, Gimme Shelter or Midnight Rambler?

not only keith is a big fan of mick t., so am i. just listing to brussels 73, hot stuff.

but still: keith is the better songwriter - the best ever in my opinion, by the way - enough said.

H-Dog - How about Sway, Winter, Hide Your love. Shine a Light

Time Waits for No One? a few of those Keith wasn't even in the studio when
they were put together.

And I also think that some of Taylor's solo stuff like: Secret Affair, Never
Fall in Love Again, Morning Comes - from A Stones Throw

and songs from his 1st release: Giddy Up, Spanish in A Minor, Alabama
are right there with any of Jagger's or Richards or Woods "solo" stuff..

Rooster, if you have the audience recording - the first 9 tracks on CD 1 - and the last 9 tracks on CD2, comes from the Dec 15th show = the show without Taylor....Talyor played on Dec 14th. The soundboard source has the entire concert

I am listening again song by song of cd 2, comment LIVE as listening

1st : YCAGWYW : I hear 3 guitars, some licks of MT ?
Mick starts by the words "guitars on slaught" (taken later for the boot name)
the solo is excellent. I think it is Ronnie (around 3'50" minutes and 4'30" - the guitar does not sound the same ? Keith this time ?). Sure there is Taylor around 4'40" of playing. listen again and give your opinion.
Who plays around the 7' minutes ? and at 7'45 ? it sounds different no ? excellent guitars answering each others till 8'.

Mick introduces TAYLOR , I am not mad, he is here !

LITTLE T&A

Did Taylor left the stage with Mick after the introduction ?
the guitar is excellent around 1'40" and at the end of the song
I cannot hear more guitars than usually

just before TD (at the end of L T&A), I am pretty sure that the guitar you listen around 3'45 is Taylor. Ron and Keith don't play like that before a song
