No I am not bored and yes I am sitting at home reading reviews and looking over posts. Envious, not at all. I do mean that, I have no reason to suppress my thoughts. I'm sure there is excitement at the shows but nothing is changing people.

So thats what makes it exciting "different versions of songs"? Really how different are these songs?

How about different songs? An acoustic set, a blues set, a Chuck Berry set, 2 or 3 or 4 more songs instead of 1 less, a guitar solo, an instrumental, a medley, a request, a change of the same routine. These are a few options can you think of a few?

No need to alter the structure of the victory lap to satisfy someone who is staying home and reading the reviews. When that gets boring to me I stop reading for awhile. But I have seen shows where a band plays the exact same setlist 3 nights in a row but yet somehow they are still different shows and experiences, go figure. Reading reviews of the same band night after night even if they change 10 songs and debut something different every night (ala Springsteen 03) also gets boring and redundant after a while. I am starting to think the only one who is really boring here is YOU.

the guys are only boring if you are a "nerd" that can afford to jet set arround the globe following them and going to every other show. Me - i have family commitments and bills to pay which means i cant afford to go to one show this tour - £150 quid is a lot of cash these days but given half the chance - i would love to see them and i know it would be even better than the 6 other gigs since 95 that ive been to!
If your bored - then youve wore the novelty out!

The problem is just that. They give up on new stuff and refuse to play anything much below an A-list hit of old.

When the band retires that will be one of the biggest criticism of their tours. Their outright refusal to experiment and stray especially in the later years. From 1967 to 1970 they passed up on playing in the major festivals with the exception of Altamont which had the makings of being great. Their playing was awesome. But we all know how that turned out.

Thanks so much for the kind words. I noticed your last statement.

If you are at all thinking of coming man, book your flight now! Just last week, I found cheaper fares than the ones I booked in March, seriously. And you can always get a ticket to the shows. Just do it!!

Don't live vicariously, just LIVE, man and don't wish you lived for the rest of your life!! Hope to see you in London.

"When the band retires that will be one of the biggest criticism of their tours"

I am sure most people who have seen them will be thankful for the experience but it wouldn't surprise if you were still complaiing about it.

If you consider all the songs played the recent years, never played before (stray cat blues, she was hot, she's so cold, learning the game, get up stand up, night time, I'll go crazy, sway, Mr Pitiful etc... + the news songs + the licks tour with 3 small venues, arenas and stadiums during the same tour, I do not agree when you say the band is doing the same show for years.

What I need is listen to rock n'roll mainly. Pearl Jam, the Who and others just play on stage with no fireworks and it does work. The Stones bring more with a supershow, surprises. And remains the best band I have ever seen on stage. Each tour I say to myself "this is it. It's over now they are too old, tired (the thing I thought when I saw the 2 London gigs in London in 99); But they are NOT !! at all !! again this year they blowed my mind with excellent shows.

Just one regret : not enough guests on stage to avoid a kind of routine and try some new versions and sing songs of other artists.
If you watch the Atlantic city 89 show, Miami 94, St Louis 98 the guests brought a fresh touch and what a surprise for the crowd !
U2 was supposed to play with them on july 1st 95 when the storm arrived and changed the plans (regrets !)

I wish I would see Sonny Rollins coming on stage to play waiting on a friend, such a lovely song !

the future ? I would see smallest venues, some accoustic parts, some guests, some improvisations "what would you like to listen to ?"

They have been on tour for over 40 years, if you have not seen them by now then you are truly a very casual fan or a puppy.

Being critical of their setlist and show is a right of long time fans, or anyone who pays to see them, just as is kissing their ass is for people afraid to speak up or clueless beyond radio hits.

30 times and no problems with the setlist. Never get sick of Start Me Up or JJF or Sympathy and usually get a few gems. Always a unique experience unlike reading a setlist on a message board which is always a similiar experience no matter what they play.

I thought the plexiglass routine was a sign of less predictable setlists.
