More info please Raoul Duke, how did you secure such a coveted fully paid scholarship to the great Harvard?

For a full time student, what is the tuition for a student per semester?

Well, most PhD programs in the United States do not require students to pay any tuition money. They usually fund you throughout. In Harvard's case, they also give you yearly fellowships that allow you to live pretty comfortably, if not especially glamorously. In any case, the tuition for undergraduates right now is about $40,000 a year. Definitely beyond my means - my own undergraduate degree is from the University of Kansas...

How I got in? I sent them an application and was one of the 20 lucky bastards my department admitted that year. I had a pretty decent record and a few publications in academic journals that helped out quite a bit.

Hey Harvard Fellow. Congrats! Anybody excellent enough can get into Harvard, so you very well deserved it, but 20 sounds a lot to me. Which department is this? I'm an astronomer at SRON in Utrecht (Netherlands), will get my PhD in about half a year at the Amsterdam University. Been to Harvard once, while in Boston for the Stones in Jan 2006. Mighty cold then, probably hot as hell now. Didn't like Boston, really liked Camebridge and the campus though.

GCSE's and a GNVQ in Business Studies. Education went out the window when I opted to join the Civil Service.

No. The Kennedy School is very prestigious, but it is more of a public administration school that trains "practitioners." The Department of Government (www.gov.harvard.edu), which is where I work, is mostly for aspiring academics. To give you an idea, the difference in the curriculum is comparable to what you would see between a business school and an economics department.

That makes sense as she is involved in public administration. Thanks for the explanation!
