Keith's Best Recorded Vocal Performance

No, I'm not joking.

Two categories, since he sings lead on such a small percentage of songs - lead and back-up/duet/harmony. And solo stuff counts, too!

Lead: Slipping Away

Back-up: Can't You Hear Me Knockin'

Live? i'd go with "happy" from brussels '73 (halycon)...ferocious...just ferocious.

studio? i would like to think about this a bit before i venture an opinion. ty.
tho the harmony on studio bs would be hard to beat...indelible...
actually so much of his studio harmony work is spectacular...band lost a lot of thrust when keith stopped doing main harmony lines with mj imo...there are literally a dozen examples, if not more, where keith's harmony made huge huge huge impact on the best and brightest of the most golden stuff those first 15 years...huge.

Coming Down Again by a mile

Not sure if it's the best, but I was listening to Hate It When You Leave about 10 minutes ago, and was enraptured.

The last verse of "Slipping Away" - especially the way he sings the word 'soon'. Shivers me timbers every time.

The bit on "Thru & Thru" where the drums kick in and he growls that "we're OHHHH-pen 24 hours baby" is pretty blood curdling too.

This one is simple. Quite simply the highlight of BTB

Thief in the Night / How Can I Stop, in combination, are quite simply one of the greatest vocal performances by anyone ever. Maybe not a classic great voice but the emotion coming through is just the greatest ever.

Coming Down Again comes a close second though.

Hey third verse of Austin...Learnin' The Game where he sneers it
thru clenched teeth like a true wounded buccaneer of the love game....

Good call, Rockman. Thats an absolutely amazing performance. The bit you refer to is terrific.

Best thing on the whole DVD by a country mile, IMO.

Nobody mentioned The Worst.
Concerning live, Happy on Live at Max video is far the best overall RnR performance ever happened.

There is indeed. That was also the song's live debut. He absolutely nailed it, too. I was there that night as well.
