Buses to Slane

Slane gig will be my first trip to Ireland. All of the adds for buses say "Return Trip." Does this mean "round trip" (out AND back) as we say here in the states? We're staying in downtown Dublin.

Any other reccomendations for Slane?

Woody,
I am also going to Slane from the states, but after much debate, I am going to drive, I figure I will have double excitement; seeing the Stones and driving on the left side of the road for the first time.

Bluz- I'm renting a car as well, but not to Slane. I NEVER drive to Stones show. Good way to end up in the Irish pokey. Good luck!

Actually the real reason I am driving is
1. I am staying 20 minutes outside of Dublin and I don't want to drive in the city (even if it is to leave my car to catch the bus)
2. Also, the ads I saw have all the busses arriving by 2:30. With the Stones not hitting the stage until well after 9:00pm, that's a whole lotta standing. I don't care if I get there a little later and miss the opening acts.

Yes Woody, return means the journey there AND the journey back.

I beleive that the TM buses leave Dublin between 12 and 4pm.

Thanks for the info.

Also, "Smithwick's" has been highly reccommended to me by those who've been there.

Trust me. If youre in a long queue for alcohol, you do NOT want the people in front of you to be waiting on their Guinness to 'settle'.....

Smithwicks is a lovely beer...but it's a kinda 'bitter' - the closest thing we have to the UK tradition of brewing ale. I only got sick after drinking it once, mind you I did have 12 pints, and the bag of dry roasted nuts i had afterwards can't have helped!

in fairness to the way MCD promote gigs, the way they had it set up at Marlay Park for Crowded House/Peter Gabriel was a tent with a gazillion pints pre-poured. Assuming the queue moves fast enough (and at five euro a pop - no mucking about with change as such) it did, you got a fresh enough pint.

M'learned friend gazza, as per, hits the nail on the head re waiting for 'stout' (the drink, not the bodily attribute) consumers to have their pint settle.

I'm guessing that the gold circles might have their own beer setups as well? Dag-nabbit, I've paid for my exclusivity, and i'm frigged if i'm having the hoi-polloi interfere with my attempts to get adequetely refreshed! grinning smiley

Good point. I would hope so. I havent been to Slane since 1995 (REM/Oasis) and its a hell of a long (and uphill) trek from the FOS area to the beer tent way up on the side of the hill!!

I'll be driving all day from Dingle, checking in to my B & B south of Dublin, then rushing to slane, they better have decent suds there.

Seems like that bus trip can only be ordered/delivered if you live in Ireland or UK.

If any board regulars (such as you BV!) are having trouble booking I am happy to book (a limited number of tickets) and send on to you.

I'll do the same if anyone is travelling via Belfast. It appears that its OK for addresses in Germany as well as the UK and Ireland, for some reason,

I would be amazed if you cant just turn up on the day and buy a return ticket, however. They'll probably put on as many buses as are required.

One way of taking care of it would be - if youre in Dublin before the day of the show - to go to the Ticketmaster kiosk which is in the shopping centre beside st Stephens Green in the centre of the city and get your tickets over the counter.
