oops, Pauly - where's the firm believer from yesterday?

>>I'm a firm believer that if you don't ask you don't get, whereby if you do ask ... well who's to say what might happen ? <<

A nice letter and some good ideas won't hurt anyone.
and one could say; at least we tried.

i'd say the good ideas would make a lot more difference than the nice letter.
do any of us have any? :E

(it's not *quite* related, but close enough: has anyone else here got the Return to Sin City dvd?
and have you listened to Polly Parson's commentary on what was involved in setting up those shows?)

The oldest should be at the front. That'll teach them to misrepresent their fanbase in their videos (as well as ensuring I get a prime position)

Age before beauty!!

You might have to scrape me off the floor at the end of the tour, but it'll be really good scrapings. - Mick Jagger

Its a good idea and there is no harm in trying to approach the Stones with such a proposal.
I am not very much in favour of hiring them and only fans able to put 1000USD on the table would get a ticket ( even if I can afford it myself).
I just would like to see what is their reactions towards this idea and whether they could come out with something to please us "hard core fans".
But they must like the idea !
How disapointing it would be if they would agree to do it only because they get well paid !
I am not naive and I know that money somehow could be an issue (beside many other ones like crew schedule ,health ,their own agenda and so on )before all the Stones must like the idea of pleasing people who buy every issue or reissue of their CD's ,DVD's and who spread their interest in their music round the world.
We like them ,for sure but do they like us ?

We just have to look for an appropriate venue.

What about another Museum? I mean that's where they belong.
Or maybe Madame Tussau is an alternative.

We only have to wax them after the show so they can stay there forever.

In future it will only cost you EUR 10,00 for a ticket at the box office at Madame Tussau to watch them.

Personally, I can think of several million reasons. All of them are green and made of paper....

This is like the greatest idea ever...I'm in.

And if this start to take a serious turn, I offer myself to start looking (here in Paris) for nice places that can seem attractive to the Stones (Cité de la Music or even the Olimpia).

The time to make a move on something like this was just after the tour was announced (and as far as getting a concert date - get one before it actually kicked off)

There isnt a window to do something like this between now and end of the tour (Mick's not going to risk his throat on something like this and jeopardise future shows) and most of the crew are probably only contracted up to the 02 shows.

If there is no time, lets not waste any...There must be thousands of pretty valid reasons to think this wont work, but at leat we can try it.

It can all start with a simple email from Urban Wheel to Cohl, with BV's permission to act in name of the IORR Fan Club.

You'll get a reply that either put everything to rest or it could be encouraging to proceed with it.

Nothing to lose (only 1k if it works)

I'd stump up $1,000 for a ticket...it's cost me a lot, lot more than that for some shows over the years (the Astoria cost me £700 to get in !).

I think to make any approach the money to pay for the concert would have to be put up front in a bank account of someone we all trust.

You cannot just appear out of the blue and go and start trying to book them without showing the funds are in place.

Then they know you are serious.

There is also the printing of tickets and their distribution to think off the hire of the venu not just the Stones 2.5 Million or whatever.

They dont pay for the stafdium out of their cut that is usually the promoters job.

If you have a promoter to organise this then he will also want some payment unless anyone knows of a very charitable one or we have to do it but we will still have to pay for the printer and hire of the Venu on top of the fee.

Another thought on the subject.

I think a concert next year would be better all round give them time to recharge their batteries, and Us something to look forward to.

Also will be easier for them to get the crew together.

You never know this may persuade them to also do a a few select concerts without all the usual trimmings.

... and then there is the extra very high security cost, like around 10 million bucks, to try and keep the 'true fans' (FAN'ATICS) at a safe distance .......

theres better options to do with a few mill than throw it at some songs that everyone has heard and seen 47,592 times ..... reality, what a concept.

Don't misunderstand me, I'd have no qualms about making an "approach" per se through whatever constitutes official channels, as long as it were to be a sensible, well thought out, and as far as we could tell - an APPEALING one, it's just that I wouldn't be overly optimistic about getting any other type of response than a (possibly) polite rebuttal. I just think that we tend to think of them in ways that to be honest ... they don't even think about themselves in. Also, we DO allow ourselves to get a tad overcome by sentiment, and as I said ... I'm far from convinced that the Rolling Stones themselves carry but a mere scrap of sentiment, if even that. I don't know why, sentiment is a fine thing to be honest and deserves a place in everyone's life ... it's just a feeling I have about the way they look at themselves and think of themselves these days. I might be wrong ... it's just a gut instinct !

A beautiful thought, wish it could come true, but let´s face it, the crew and the Stones are done (for this time) after the 26th.

Planning for a year from now might be best, I think.

Paulywaul, what kinds of items would you suggest in the approach?

Is that where someone stupid with a flare gun burned the place to the ground?

Then suddenly a great post showed up! After we´ve had a hard time listening to Keiths difficulties with Honky Tonk Women. I just counted down to the Copenhagen gig and thought that is probably the last Stones show I´m going to see.

A private club gig for fans only for 1000 $. Yes I´m in. It has to be in the summer, but when? We should have thought about it one year ago. As others mentioned I don´t think it´s feasible if the Stones are not on tour. And how do we know which are the fans? IORR is a public place. If the gig would be a reality, lots of wealthy people would like to buy up the tickets.

The place should be in Europe, since IORR is a European fan club and it has to be reachable with cheap connections like Ryan Air. Then Stockholm is a great place to be in! Well if I put away my personal priorities, I think London is a logical place. And then there could be an opening even if the Stones are not on tour. However somebody has to organize the whole thing. Lack of organization is normally what cause the failure of good ideas. The idea is feasible and I think the Stones would like to do it, even if the Stones camp are not appreciating the IORR as such.

They wouldnt get together, let alone rehearse and put a crew together, for a one off show. It would need to be within the same time frame as an extended period of performing/touring. I think its a long shot at best that the Stones will be doing that in 2008.

Once again - "Get Your Euros Out"

I'd probably go $500 - $1000 if it was in a theatre -

$500 for a 4000 seater
$1000 for a 2000 seater

I wouldn't pay $500 to hear a bunch of songs that I have heard many times before let alone $1000. Now if they open the books and anything goes with the setlist that is a different story. That will NEVER happen.

But understand this, anything other than the usual songs requires rehearsals and practice. They would never go to that length for one show considering they wouldn't do it for a major tour.

The last thing they would want is to be groped by 2000 sweaty palms.
