"Hendrix is the only one that I think deserves the legendary status that he has acquired."

So playing the guitar is considered higher by you? Good for us to know.

Whats the point in repeatedly stating your hatred or that you dislike a legend?

The overrate-thing would rather encompass the icon status.

M y Jimbo aint that playboy junkie, it's the bearded, cigar-smokin',
introvert, semi-fat appearance we saw pop up occasionally from 1969
and permanently from late 1970. Trust me; he can not be overrated.

If he makes me feel: "I woke up this mornin' & I got myself a beer
(or a beard smiling smiley)"... at times... So what? Whats the point go with
the flow in this Soma world?

James Douglas Morrison was many decades ahead of his time:
maybe we're finally catching up, hence the strong reactions.

I see him up there with Yeats, Wilde,
much much much more than a pop artist.
Bus as a rock artist he paced the way for Iggy (whome he boozed with)
and a whole punk rock stage, and a lot of the avantgarde.
he is the single most important person in rock history.

Those who does not agree can just go stuff themselves.

As I was reading this thread, the radio suddenly played 'Light My Fire',and previewed an interview with Ray Manzarek - spooky or what!

I saw the Doors at the Roundhouse in '68, first concert I saw with a light show and a proper PA, quite an experience. It was a double header with Jefferson Airplane, and for me, the JA were the better band, but that might have been because they had Grace Slick .......
