By what criteria do you judge success in this respect? Certainly, Madonna is a 'world wide' phenomenon but 'success' implies that she has achieved something worthwhile (unless you are referring to purely monetary success). The problem with your comment is that it implies Madonna's success should be inspirational for all women, when, in fact, such success is based on her selling herself almost entirely on the basis of her sexuality/sex appeal. Is this the kind of thing to which women should aspire?

I HATE MADONNA! She is so full of herself it makes me sick! She's not nearly as good as SHE thinks and the media just keeps playing into her hands! Unfortunately the more outrageous she gets the more her fans adore her! SICK!

It's an inevitable strategy in the music biz I suppose. And, yes, the Stones are guilty of it too. She's still a t*** though.

I've just bought her Immaculate Collection. Absoloutley love it. Anyone who doesn't at least like some of Madonnas work is bonkers in my opinion.

I agree Big Al, some her stuff, especially RAY OF LIGHT and BEAUTIFUL STRANGER is top notch.... it's just some of the quirky behavior that gets a bit weird IMHO.....

yes...that's what happens when they start to believe their own press.
they work hard to do good work and get to the top...and will do anything
to stay there or at least stay in the limelight with "quirky behavior".
