watched a lot of the UK leg whilst working yesterday. utter, wet indie plod rock drivel in the main apart from Spinal Tap and the Beastie Boys

Metallica sounded like the corporate beast they've become and had me yearning for the mid 80's version that actually rocked

the Chilli's were god awful as per usual

in the end i had to turn it off and go to the pub

Ooh, politics, hairy balls, Al Gore, woowy!

Really though, the whole Live Earth thing sucked. Crappy organization first of all. Crappy thing to do for such a cause too. It\'s like buying a dog and shitting all over it.

The performances were OK, though. I like Bon Jovi. Metallica.. Never cared for Duran Duran. The Gimmie Shelter performance was odd but interesting. I missed most of it though.

Madonna's song is called BEAUTIFUL STRANGER, not PERFECT STRANGER (like the 80's sitcom, lol). And I think Madonna did a great job. I have the highest respect for her for many reasons.
I think the concerts were great. They were for a good cause and if you actually watched the non-music clips you learned things too.
The Smashing Pumpkins were great. Their set was awesome. I didn't know the first song, but it's probably on the new album that's coming out on Tuesday (that I am definitely buying). The current singles Tarantula and Doomsday Clock are awesome. I too miss James and D'arcy (and even Melissa) but as long as we have Billy and Jimmy we're good.

This would be the same "globe" which was far and away hotter and dryer for eons BETWEEN THE FIRST AND SECOND ICE AGES?

Are you hot at the moment? Perhaps you should consider the fact that it's July - rather than believing fairy tales.

Well, I went to the Live Earth gig at London the other day - was nice to finally get to go to the new Wembley Stadium, it's a great venue, shame the same can't be said for the rest of wembley!

Sat through a real pile of old cobblers for the majority of the day, just kept on going to the bar and ordering four beers in a tray. getting nicely tight

Few good bands - Chilli Peppers I enjoyed. but mostly it was just dross, most of the crowd were just fair weather music fans too, mostly there for the 'event' come to think of it, bit like a Stones crowd nowadays.

But, Metallica weren't too bad, at least I could rock out to 'em, think I freaked out a lot of people stadning around me - music was a bit frightening for them!

Then the highlight of the day - Spinal Tap - the only reason i was there, absolutely cracking:

Stonehenge: fantastic - especially when the dwarves wheeled on the mini set, I was jigging during the mandolin bridge, all good,

New song- Warmer than hell: fantastic lyrics, gotta get a copy of it.

Big bottom: what a way ti finish, especially with the on-stage jam at the end.

Lots of little gags running through the set

All in all, well worth going, now I can sit in the pub with all my hairy mates, drinking beer and talking about the great bands we've all seen, and I can trump 'em all,

LONG LIVE THE TAP!!!!!!

You are referring to the Milankovitch cycles, which cause the temperature changes you\'ve mentioned. Temperatures increase and decrease regularly. We are currently in a cooling period. Yet temperatures are rising. How would one explain such an increase of temperature?

Perhaps the "cooling period" is over - except for the Antarctic and mainland Greenland where ice is presently on the increase.

That man can drastically effect the climate of the earth in a few decades after millions of years of ever evolving change simply defies logic. Sorry.

The glaciers where I live - are melting like never before, 100s of meters each year. The northpole has never been like it is now, either - the ice so thin that it's an outrage

The Earth CAN`T be round, otherwise we`d have fallen off by now! It simply defies logic! It MUST be flat!

Out of "politically correct" retorts and thus resorting sarcasm? That didn't take long.

The earth is indeed warming, in places at the moment, I agree. Where we diverge is as to whether it is the fault of man AND if we can do anything about it anyhow.

The number one source of greenhouse gases:

Not cars.

Not factories.

But:

(tada)

Belching cows.

Then what is causing the Earth to heat up so drastically?

Who says it's doing so? Al Gore and his ilk? Those who believe him without question? The earth has heated and cooled for millions of years.

No one came to the Live Earth concert in Johannasburg yesterday because it was TOO COLD there.

Let's just say we turn off every factory and car and source of so-called greenhouse emissions tomorrow and all become vegetarians so we have no more use for methane spewing cattle. Exactly what would that accomplish in one year or ten or a century?

When we do could cook our veggies, on Sunday only perhaps, we could do so over fires fueled by animal dung like the Africans (where lung related conditions are a leading cause of death due to same).

What a wonderful world it would be. Of course there would be no music as we would have quit processing the petroleum based substances required to manufacture CDs and computor chips.
