OT: Reunited Van Halen Eyeing Fall Arena Run

Won't you dig down deep and buy a ticket so Dave can afford a decent toupee and Eddie can afford a new liver and some badly needed electroshock treatment?

Here's the link: [www.billboard.com]

And here's the text of the article:

Reunited Van Halen Eyeing Fall Arena Run
David Lee Roth

July 03, 2007, 10:00 AM ET

Ray Waddell, Nashville
A proposed summer amphitheater tour by a reunited Van Halen that was derailed when guitarist Eddie Van Halen checked into rehab now looks like it may be resurrected as a fall arena run. Several arena holds are in place in major markets for potential Van Halen dates, Billboard.com has learned.

The tour, negotiations for which were first tipped here on Jan. 24, would feature David Lee Roth, Eddie and Alex Van Halen and Eddie Van Halen's teenage son Wolfgang on bass.

Wheels had been in motion for a 40-date, Live Nation-produced amphitheater tour, with original frontman Roth back in the fold for the first time in more than 20 years. Van Halen last toured in 2004 with vocalist Sammy Hagar, grossing nearly $40 million, according to Billboard Boxscore.

But the reunion never got off the ground, and Eddie Van Halen entered a rehabilitation facility for undisclosed reasons in March. In the months since, the artist has been seen publicly looking healthy and fit.

The buzz surrounding the prospect of a Van Halen tour with Roth seems to point toward a successful trek. "I see it absolutely as an inevitability," Roth told Billboard.com more than a year ago regarding a tour with his ex-bandmates. "To me, it's not rocket surgery. It's very simple to put together. And as far as hurt feelings and water under the dam, like what's-her-name says to what's-her-name at the end of the movie 'Chicago' -- 'So what? It's showbiz!'"

They should call it the dash for cash tour.

Wolfie was just quoted the other day as saying it was a GOOD thin the reunion fell apart as the road, VH style, was no place for a teenager. Kid sounds like he has more sense than his old man or his uncle.

I'm betting this never comes to fruition and if it does it'll be a trainwreck of epic proportions.

Who cares at this point?

- They screwed Michael Anthony out of his spot in the band.
- In Anthony's place they now have a 16 year old little boy playing bass.
- Eddie Van Halen is a total train wreck. I'd be shocked if he made it through the tour.
- David Lee Roth is a train wreck whose ego will somehow ruin this tour.

I'd say there is a 50/50 chance they will play a single show. I'd say there is a 95% chance they will not make it to the end of the tour.

There is a 100% chance they will be playing to arenas that are only 60-70% sold out.

It's too bad. At one point they were a great band. If they had done this tour a decade ago they would have been a stadium act.

The only way to salvage this is if they were to bring Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony along for the tour to make up for what they have done to their fans.

A Roth/Hagar/Van Halen tour might be a big deal. Beyond that, I don't think anyone cares anymore.

i agree with you about michael surely...big part of their sound vocally as well as bass...but any vh reunion with dlr up front is certainly interesting to me...
they were killer with dave...(i'm just sorry that eddie turned a generation of otherwise good guitarists with tons of wasted potential into zombie dweedlydesweeedlydweedleysweeeeslyroarrrrrrrrbendnnddddddddiddlediddddlediddelll
.....endless hammeron/pull off silliness...

but that's not eddie's fault...good luck to them...and yeh it sux that there's still enough bitterness to keep michael out for god knows what reason...

If you do not think Eddie looks 100% better than he did a few months ago, you are either blind or simply allowing your dislike of him affect your better judgment.

I agree that Michael Anthony was a HUGE componet to the bands sound--one of the things that separated them from the drek that follwed in their wake was MA's AWESOME harmonies--and the fact that they sounded exactly the same live proves he had the goods. An average, perhaps even non-descript bass player? Can't really argue but with one of the most innovative guitar players in recorded music over-the-top bass playing would have created an absolute mess.

As for Eddie....hope he is as healthy as he looks. He is on the cover of Guitar World (speaks ONLY about his amp, which at this point is probably a very smart move), but he really has gone from looking like an older version of that walking death that dates Kate Moss, to someone who looks like the picture of health and vitality.

Fall sounds good......really good--just put MA back in the band for Pete's sakes

I saw VH in San Diego with Roth (of course) on the tour that was promoting either their 2nd or 3rd album. It was a good show but I found it on the short side with a lot of soloing by EVERYBODY... They weren't THAT great then and I doubt they'd be any better now..... This is "much ado about nothing" - Get together or not, their time has come and gone a long time ago.... (and this is from a casual fan that is willing to throw on a VH CD from time to time, still)

I think that second picture is Billy Ray Cyrus (post-mullet days).

Only time I ever saw the mighty Van Halen was in Stockholm 1984

I just wish they make up, and hit the road again. One of the best bands there ever was. And donĀ“t make the mistake of labeling them a 80:s hair band. They were truly original. And not starting out in the 80:s.....

Back in the '70s and early 80's in New Orleans, there was a place called The Warehouse. It was literally an old warehouse. A really nasty sh*thole of a place in a very seedy part of town.

On 16 April, 1978, I went there to see a show headlined by Montrose and Journey. Yeah, Journey, I know, but I was only seventeen at the time! Opening act was, you guessed it, Van Halen.

Turned out I was much more impressed by the opener that night than the two bands appearing on my ticket stub. I distinctly remember thinking that these guys will be famous one day and I can't wait to see them again.

My wait turned out to be a short one. Less than three months later, Van Halen was back in New Orleans opening for the Stones in front of 80,000+ at the Louisiana Superdome.

I love Van Halen and I for one will be there. I saw Roth two summers ago and it was a pretty wild concert and alot of fun he mostly played Van HAlen songs, Van HAlen is agreat summer band they have given me alot of good memories. By the way Edide looks 100% better, good for him and I hope they put out some new music also,

Hey good for Eddie, if he went to rehab for the right reasons. Cleaning him self up for his own good and for his family. NOT just to be in some kind of functional shape to do a money grab tour. Sammy and Michael have shown nothing but class towards Eddie and by keeping both of them out of the band, espicially Michael,Eddie has shown no class. If somehow this turns to be a kick ass sucessful tour, than good for him. That would be the ultimate way for Eddie to prove himself to his (many)critics.

Where are all these critics? Are you referring to people on this board? Ever pick up a guitar magazine article on him? How many of these "critics" actually have a clue as to play a guitar?

Just wondering..........

I'm just referring to the fan base in general. We'll see if they go through with this and how many tickets they sell and the quality of the shows. No one is doubting that at his best Eddie Van Halen is a great guitar player. Only one way to find out if he still is. Play.

Hey Slide I know your a big VH fan. No prob. If they come out with a good sounding tour I wouldn't rule out going. But part of where I'm coming from is that I'm a big Sammy solo fan and I would rather see Sammy and Michael than DLR.
