This is big news. I had gotten the impression there was nothing to be had. Lou Reed was never very prolific, recycling VU songs for new albums throughout the 70s, so I thought there wasn't really a chance for additional songs. Maybe it's just alternate mixes or, as you say, extended versions.

What I would like almost as much as new music would be clear notes as to who plays what on which songs. The roster of players--Bruce, Winwood--is amazing but which cuts are they on?

They aren't additional songs, they are interludes that served as interstitial bits to connect the tracks. The aforementioned 8-track had an instrumental section at the end of the title track that apparently wasn't released on any other format. The entire album apparently was originally structured that way but edited due to length.

(And Lou recycled so many VU songs because they were obviously worthy of being heard).

I don't think there are any extra songs/outtakes, merely extended versions of the songs and interludes as Glam D points out. I think the album will probably be restructured the way Lou and Ezrin originally intended.

I'd really love to hear the results of this "director's cut". It's such a sick'n'sad masterpiece! And, along with "Tommy" the (much less pompous) blueprint for "The Wall".

wish there were more than the few sentences in the NME to go on. sounds as if he is listening to more than a few interludes and extended versions. but the fact that it only appears in the NME suggests that there's nothing to the story.

according to the credits, Jack Bruce plays on all of the songs apart from "Lady Day" and "The Kids"

I've always found that jarring, because when I think of bass playing on the album, I think of "The Kids" first. But I guess that's not his style, not so bluesy.
