However much money the Deutsche Bank (which I don't have much sympathy for, to be honest) might spend on the Stones, it's money that belongs to their customers.

If they really do spend 5 million on that "private show" it is a scandal which needs further investigation. I won't hesitate to make this know to the general public. Mr Ackermann has some more questions to answer.

Well, we might not like it but it's their money. It's a private company right?

What is the question exactly?

What else private gigs have they done?
But I wonder if Bv hasnt answered already?
Me mentioning your name, erikjjf, was just a response
of Bruno mentioning Mathijs.

This is what Bv posted above:

Stu's tribute gig in 1986.

The Radio City show if it can be considered a private gig, as tickets were only offered to Robin Hood Foundation donors.

Bagley's Warehouse in September 1995, but that was mainly a videoshoot.
There have been a few other video shoots, where they have performed a few songs in front of a crowd of invited guests (Ottawa 2005, Paris 1983).

A private gig is a regular show where someone private pay for the Stones to play and where the public can not see them. I would not count all these special secret recordings and memorials etc as private gigs as such. Well they are private sure and some are gigs, but they are usually not for the crowd it is for an event, such as a recording or a memorial or whatever. And they don't play a complete set i.e. not a full 12-15 set of songs, which I think is a minimum to be called a complete gig. The press conference 3 songs in NYC was not a private show/gig. The 5 songs in Vilvoorde was not a gig and so on. But Barcelona July 2007 will indeed be a complete show - probably just 15 or so songs - with a private crowd.

yes shawn, and interestingly, since right about the same time thd band went mostly on cruise control and the albums became, to be extremely kind, more thrown together 'product' and 'less than a major cultural event'...funny how all that 'conincendental' stuff works...

Correct.
Even though they played about 8-10 songs at Bagley's Warehouse for crew and friends, it was primarily a video shoot for Like A Rolling Stone.

Oh, of course it's not the Deutsche Bank customers money, sorry. The word I should have used is shareholders.

But I also think this affects the customers, as the Deutsche Bank is reducing their staff each year. They are charging A LOT from their private customers.
So the Deutsche Bank spending some cash on a private Stones show is of interest for the general public.

At least in my opinion. And I am far from being a communist.

Hey hey hey... Do you worry about a bank or somebody else spending 5 million dollars or so on a party? That is pocket money. Go to Frankfurt or San Francisco or Charlotte or London City and see the biggest buildings posh downtown steel and glass. SF is packed with them. It is steel and glass built with YOUR money. If you don't like your bank spendings then change to another bank. Very simple. Also, if you spend all your money then there is nothing left for the bank. Good reason for being on tour...

Well, you know, they probably have a fund for that kind of parties/celebrations anyway, like any big company. So they might as well spend it on The Stones.

Re: Private gig in Barcelona next month

Well said, Björnulf. But there is a difference between buildings and a party. Buildings are there for quite a while, that money is not completely lost. It's of some sort of value, normally. Whereas the money that is spent on a party is gone forever.

Remember that I had the information on the Dusseldorf show long before it was announced officially? I have an inside source inside the Deutsche Bank and he/she told me a lot of stories which don't belong here (not about their involvement with the Stones), but if it's true that they are spending that much for the Stones sounds obcene to me and might make a lot of people that suffered from the companys politics regarding their staff very angry.

Nevertheless, I can't blame the Stones here. Take the money and run. Music is business, too.

No need to feel like an idiot. If there's a good show just scream as much as your throat allows. If Stones feel OK with this gig for DB why should we care?

I think you're lost in argument, Papo.
Is rock music without any values now?

Re: Private gig in Barcelona next month
Posted by: Papo ()
Date: June 26, 2007 16:46

So it seems. Largely.

The Rolling Stones decided to accept sponsorship etc. quite a while ago. Once that decision has been made...

I do not like that decision and some of their deals. But as they have decided to be in this business not only but also for the money (and to get as much as they can) it's not surprising that they even play a private show for the Deutsche Bank, although this company really sucks big time.

There might be rock music with values, but the Rolling Stones cleary do not belong into that category for me. They are business men and as those it's their decision to do what they want.

Well, I wasn't exactly refering to "How many private gigs have the Stones done during thier carrer???", which, as you say, would be a question for our friend erikjjf. I was refering to "How the fvck have come these "RS inc." fallen so low as to do a corporate gig for a buch of bankers, how rock'n'roll is that????" winking smiley

(I've experienced how difficult is showing irony in a foreign language, LOL!)

A corporate gig for a bank is part of the sponsorship. Without sponsoring we wouldn´t be able to see the Stones on tour like we are used to.

Although I don´t like the idea that it´s Deutsche Bank, it´s common practice, as already said.

If you want a pure Rock´n Roll attitude you have to go to small venues where unknown bands perform. There is still a independent scene, but the Stones are not part of it. Mick Taylor is doing it that way and a lot of people don´t like that either.

That´s the way it is nowadays in our society wether we like it or not.

Agree, but I don't like it. Seeing (or reading about it) the stones performing in front of people who don't care, makes me sad.
At least they should let me in so that I can report to all of you.

People, relax. Corporate gigs go on ALL THE TIME. Almost every band has done them, always quiet, always paid. No big deal.
Worry about something else.

I wish I worked for the bank. If our company had $5 million in the party budget, I'd hire the Stones in a second. Then I would invite whoever I wanted.

Rock on.

I don't see a problem with it all.
OK, so the money is bigger and it talks louder...but it's no different to them agreeing to play at some function in a local pub for a crate of ale and a pie in 1962.
It's simply what bands do...however big they are or however much money is involved.
