Exactly. The point is they don't need the money and they are doing it anyway because they are greedy bastards who'd rather make a few extra bucks than play before a crowd of real fans. Which we knew, but it sucks having it rubbed in our faces like this. Ladies and Gentlemen, The Bigger Bank Tour! Or is that the Bigger Bank Account Tour? Either way ...

Only thing with Dylan is, he plays small venues anyways for only 65 eur or so. Don't see the Stones playing in Vorst Nationaal for that price anymore.

Jagger has gone overboard with money greed. You can't take it with you. Might as well ejnoy it but its in their banks! Myself if I had 1 or 2 million I would be very happy never mind what these... have. Instead of this gig why not play Newcatle upon tyne in England..they haven't played there for ages...or Belfast or Liverpool or Manchester?!!

The band can obviously do what they like and are not unique in playing corporate gigs but I find it sad that again the idea of the Stones playing such events especially if the large fee is the incentive.

By all accounts the Isle of Wight concert went well so instead of playing for a bank why not play Glastonbury where they would get massive exposure to a new generation of music lovers?

Having said that I probably don't know the real reason for them playing the Corporate concert so I stand to be corrected.

If and when you have $50M in the bank, it would be very interesting to see what you say under the circumstances. I doubt you actually would turn down that money in those circumstances but neither of us can prove each other wrong so we'll leave it there.

Yes, the Stones are greedy, but that's the same with most of us. I've never turned down a pay rise, even though I already earn more than I really need. I mean, more than minimum wage which is judged by the government as being the smallest wage you need to get by - sort of. Anyway, the point is, no matter how much money you earn, you will always want more. Keith and Mick may not need the money but Ron and Charlie are in a slightly different situation - by no means poor but not in the same league as the glimmer twins.

There was a band (can't remember who) who got into trouble after burning all their profits - literally millions I think. Can anyone else remember this? It was a British band -I remember that much. Pretty stupid if you ask me - they should have given it to charity or built a home for homeless people.

Your right sjs none of us know what we might do. I might still do the 5 Million dollar gig. But I would also make damn sure that I would be giving something back to the fans as well. Club shows or whatever. Yes it is very difficult to be a fan of this band sometimes. This gig bothers me a lot.

As I mentioned before in this thread I work for Deutsche Bank. NONE of my spanish colleagues could confirm that there is a private gig, at least not for Deutsche Bank. They didn`t even hear rumours about it. Maybe management of DB Spain makes it top secret, who knows, but at the moment I don`t believe this gig will happen at DB

Be sure, I have been to nearly 100 gigs up to now and if this really happens at my employer, I will try anything to get there....

$50 million?? The Stones collective worth is conservatively estimated at twenty times that amount. $5 million to them is like a couple of quid to you or me. Trust me, if I was worth what theyre worth and in a rock n roll band, then yes, I'd turn that offer down every time. Its meaningless.

As they therefore dont need it and if they so desperately want to play a small show, then why not play it to a real audience of fans (after all, theyre always crowing about the vibe they get from their audience) instead of a group of corporate bigwigs (and it wont be your ordinary DeutscheBank employee who gets in to this one) who dont have any appreciation for them at all. Wouldnt it have been nice if Spain had got a club show this summer after last year's cock-ups, even as a 'thank you' gesture for their patience?

Its a shame that every single small show since this tour began - and there have been only, what, 4 of them? - has involved either crazy money to get in for most people (RCMH), a private gig (barcelona) or a largely manufactured/artificial audience designed for film crews (the beacon shows). Not a genuine single, affordable theatre show which was available to most fans.

Gazza is angry, I'm (not yet,) still puzzled that the Stones do shows like that.
A few moments ago I lifted the needle (no drug reference at all!) from my stereo and put back a maxi single (as they were called in the last millenium) back into the shelve. The chorus of the song was something like "I ain't gonna play Sun City" (sounds very Stonesish that song, by the way).
It is Stones folklore that the band is "guilty" of Gram Parsons leaving the Byrds because of their intended South Africa tour. The Stones never were that politically open but they were read between the lines and the way they were treated (from 1967 Warsaw concert to the transatlantic handshake between the UK and Argentina which to me is their highest political achievement!).
From the interlude on politics back to money... Alan Klein and Prince Rupert showed them both faces of capitalism but they were still credible (at least to me). From a financial point of view (thanks to Prince Rupert) there is no need to do concerts like that, today. But regarding their past, today's "Sun City" are cpmpanies like Coca Cola which they have done and Deutsche Bank which they will do. Concerts like that are, of course, different to SARS/Live Aid (solo), no matter what PR effect those might have had: Deutsche Bank sure won't have - we're talking of a private concert not of sponsorship! (TDK took over #1 from BASF from 1982 onwards in Germany!).
The Stones have had been the loudest, the highest paid record contract, but nowadays (from when on...) I think there is a bit of disillusionment in the band, too, which might lead them to do concerts like that - no matter how much they feel tempted by the sums Mariah Carey and the like can gross there: They have done Highwire then and Sweet Neo Con now and have been punished for that (saleswise) though they have the moral feeling of being right (even in the American public - at least, on this board?!). As any oppostion hardly seems to have an immediate impact they seem to reduce themselves to a ... well, a band.
Have a laugh as a conclusion: I ain't gonna play Deutsche Bank as I'm a customer (no employee!) of Commerzbank. But I was quite disappointed at my bank's stadium. I ran into the top tv journalist for German football. It's still "Waldstadion" to him...
Commercialism and stadium names. Guess about my next Stones ticket: I belong to those weird people that have a holiday by car instead of plane but the stadium was named by an airline. There, I bought tickets for the stand of another bank's names (see above).
To all Macca fans here (help me with the year), it caused a riot when Sir Paul sold his tour to Visa and didn't allow any other credit cards... That sure was almost a decade before the Stones played Las Vegas.

I don't turn down money either, but the difference is that you and me and most other people on earth don't already have so many millions that we can afford to live in high class luxury for the rest of our lives without ever working again. The Stones do, which is why it is so ridiculous to see them playing corporate gigs like they are some shitty state fair circuit band who needs the money to pay their mortgages. Pure greed and pure disregard for their loyal fan base.

Actually the state and county fair circuit has gotten a lot better in recent years entertainment wise................or maybe I just have really low standards.

I´ve attended the Tim Ries Project in Lisbon the day after the Stones gig and I´ve asked the band about the future and they confirmed to me they´re playing a last hour gig in Barcelona on the july 11. So, I asked them if this private Stones gig is real, and they told me they think so. Bernard didn´t say this directly to me although we asked him, but the band confirmed the Tim Ries show the day before.

LOL..I've more important things to be angry about than the Stones playing a corporate show. If thats what they want to do, thats their business. Literally.

Disappointed that the only small shows are for 'non fans', bewildered at the point of it but not in the least surprised would be the way I'd look at it.

The thing is that IF the Stones are to play live after 2007, there'll be more and more of these kind of shows percentage-wise than there will be shows that you or I will be able to get to see.
