I may be entirely mistaken, but I believe there was some kind of tradition, from the Stones' early beginnings, to introduce the band in their gigs with always the same words, namely "Ladies and Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones". As far as I know that was definitely the case during the Still Life tour, and when I saw them first live in 1982, and can be heard, of course on that Still Life album. But they seem to have given up this habit or tradition at some stage.

Anybody of the experts on the board knows more about this? I am rather curious.

as i guess other folks have clarified already, that wasn't actually a tradition apart from 81/82
when it was Bill Graham's way of introducing them. get your Ya-Ya's out for a sample of Sam Cutler's 1969 intro;
the Mick did it himself in 78, choosing his words with care as always. :E
before 69 i imagine it probably varied from venue to venue ... we want the Stones we want the Stones
oh yes and the Stones you shall have ... :E

Nowadays they are introduced by a cartoon on the big screen...

....the movie "Ladies and Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones" was from the early 70's right? 1973 or so?......but that introduction wasn't really used much at their concerts?

That introduction was used for their entire '72 American tour and sometimes on their '73 Winter tour in Hawaii and Australia.

The movie was filmed in Ft. Worth and Houston, Texas over four shows (two in Ft. Worth and Houston a piece) on June 24th and 25th, 1972. Since its' just basically a concert film, I think it's a very apt title.

The first "Ladies and Gentlemen......" was filmed the previous year at London's Marquee Club but most of us have seen that footage and know what a bust that show was. Apparently they were using that introduction in '71 as well because you see Chip Monck use this intro at the Marquee on 3/26/71.

(plus the fact that it wasn't a tradition from the way-early days) that i neglected that utterly.

Graham could hardly get the intro out at Leeds '82, as his voice was completely shot by then.

Dear ROCK, as I'm sure you know, Mick himself did all - or almost all - the intro's for the band on the 1978 tour, threw in a bit of a Cockney? accent and went over the top.... some are very funny.....

And the guy who did it was Chip Monk. He would also do the announcments you sometime shear at the end of 73 shows informing the audience that the Stones are finished, have left the building and would you please exit so we may get ready for the second show etc etc.

On "got Live if you want it" from 66 the announcer actually intrudces the whole band before they go on. "Mick Jagger, Keith Richard, Brian Jones..."
