Keith is GREAT...However, its like comparing a footballer when he is 25 and now 60. No way he is better than between 1962 and 1972.....Cant be...Same witH Muddy, the Wolf or any of the guys that kept playin' til the end....Keith will tell you that.

Actually, I was pretty impressed with this, he got caught up but most of all...kept his hands on the guitar and played for longer than I've seen him do so in a performance of this song in a while. Not the greatest but, better than posing through half of it. I'de say 8/10.

I think the biggest head-scractcher is why the hell there should be ANY confusion on how to play Satisfaction at this point in their career

Watch Ron and Keith's interaction from 0:33 to 0:50. Keith is clearly confused. It pains me to see him standing like there looking totally lost.

The world is changing, The Stones are changing, I am changing, we are all changing...

The only RIGHT way to play Satisfaction is to change it!

It shouldn't confuse you that much...

Don't you think that's a bit of a stretch there soundcheck? How you got from people loving Keith to that assumption is anyone's guess but it sounds like a silly statement to make if you ask me.

Sorry, soundcheck. I didn't know it was Keith driving those big trucks throughout Europe. No wonder he looks a bit tired sometimes...

Yeah, that '72 version rocks, but it's not very hard to see/hear that the vocal-tracks are dubbed. Both Keith's and Mick's. I mean; you can hear Mick singing without him even beeing near a mike-stand! Keith's voice is also crystal clear even though he is far from the microphone. But I still agree that Keith isn't as good as he once was. The end of the '80s was his peak as a guitarplayer as far as I'm concerned.
Still he was more often out of it in the seventies due to drugs/alcohol than he is today. But I guess our memory fades.....

I wasn't sure that this one wasn't down to the B stage sound and monitor gremlins.
Any monitor failures or sound problems on the B stage can result in a totally confusing sound for the band. Folks have often forgotten that when commenting on B Stage hiccups that are often down to this issue.
Hell, playing on stages the size the Stones use causes all kinds of timing and foldback issues if everything isn't set up just right.
It's always had the effect throwing Keith off if anything goes wrong because of his tendency to wing it in his own world. If the onstage sound isn't right, how the @#$%& is the rest of the band going to follow the old bastard when he digs his heels in ;^)

I'm not making claims that X Y or Z is the reason for A B or C onstage problem...just stating a fact about what does often go wrong and the effect it often has.

Listen to Keith's opening riffs BEFORE Charlie comes in. They only barely resemble the opening of Happy we used to know - insecure, no correct timing. Now imagine you were Charlie...as a drummer, he has a clear idea how the opening guitar riffs should be played and at what point he has to come in with his drums. Now when the guitar is played a little ....eeeh, different, it also bears the risk that it throws the drummer "off". Everybody who's playing in a band should know what I mean. Of course, Charlie came in a measure to soon. But he was clearly thrown off by Keith's unusual timing beforehand.

"Unusual" timing is hardly a new developement where KR is concerned ;^)

How many times has Keith accidentally or deliberately turned the beat around on Charlie ?
Sometimes it sounds brilliant, sometimes they they justt get away with it...and sometimes it's egg on faces !
The issue at the moment is that EVERYTHING all of a sudden has to be because there's an additional "something wrong" with Keith.

Did I say that it is a "new development"?

Well, it's not like this whole "something wrong" talk is based on this Happy version alone! In the past, nobody really cared about one or two f**kups here and there; indeed, those *occasional* f**kups were generally regarded as quite funny, but when they appear too often, people tend not to take a sub-par playing all to lighthearted.

Then again, as reports from Paris and Lyon indicate that Keith is working himself out of the hole, I don't see the reason for continuing this discussion right now. Only the future will tell us if everything is ok on a permanent basis or if one or two good gigs are followed by one or two bad gigs.

The sad truth is that there's been a lot of falling off (at least based on these videos) in Keith's playing ability. I don't think he was trying the song a new way/turning the beat around/etc. on purpose. Hard to believe that just a year ago, he was fairly crisp on most stuff (intro to BS not included).
