Reconsidering the BRIDGES TO BABYLON album
Posted by: saltoftheearth ()

Shortly after the BRIDGES TO BABYLON album was released a friend of mine gave me a copy as a birthday present. I hardly ever listened to the entire album because I was more into the older songs/albums.

But recently I rediscovered it in my collection, gave it a listen and was really surprised how good it actually is. Not that I am the die-hard Stones fan - never liked DIRTY WORK or EMOTIONAL RESCUE - but BRIDGES TO BABYLON turned out to be a very good album.

Two songs I absolutely love: Saint Of Me and Out Of Control. I can listen to them for hours, both studio and live versions... Add Thieves in the Night and you get a fine album...

IMO a very poor album. But How Can I Stop is a masterpiece.

i got off to a slow start with B2B, but i get it now. amazing album.
it does still occasionally puzzle me that one number is on there twice, but
yeah, it's full of beautiful strong stuff. some of that "incoming" is direct from another galaxy.

I really like Saint, a heavy bottom end that stimulates the lower intestine when played live.

Oily.

Which number?

Always Suffering/Already Over Me
it's not the first time that's been done, of course, but in this case i feel
i'd probably appreciate one of them more if they'd omitted the other one.

I just love it. A bit different to the usual Stones works.
All 3 Keith songs are beautiful, I enjoy Anybody seen my baby a lot. A very good feelin from the start to the fnal song.

I remember When I bought this CD when it was first came out it had a strong impreganation smell of marijuana on the plsatic additional cover. Anyone know if this was a marketing gimmick? or did I just buy one that someone left in a bag of dope for a week.

To me its their worst album, second to Dirty Work. But its a matter of opinions, anyway there's two or three great songs on it. The rest, i just can't stand.

Not on the same album though, but listen to the intros of Coming Down Again and Sleep Tonight smiling smiley

Have had verbal-dagger fights over
Always and Already but bunkerin' with Already..
The soul of the thang...Charlie's drum whacks and Micks lines
As I danced in your rodeo.....Ride it Mick ...right on the dime...right on da dime

Running Too Deep and Will But You Won't as well -
conveniently located right in a row too, just to make sure we know it's deliberate

>> Always and Already but bunkerin' with Already <<

Already's playing right now - yeah you're right, Rockman,
there's some mighty beautiful guitar on there

flip the switch is a great rocker with the sax at the end adding to the bottom, the solo in gunface is nasty, nice motown funk with out of control, keith and his reggae thing...this album has a bit of every thing and even though it has a few guests and is slickly produced it is just a good album to play very loud...i would take it above voodoo if given the choice...

There are two tracks on this album that I concider to be among the Stones best ever:

Saint of Me and Out Of Control. I really like You donĀ“t have to mean it and How can I stop as well.. the rest for me is a mixed bag.
The Jegger ballads sounds very similar so all the ballads he has ever done from 1997 until today.

Id rate it 3/5

bridges to babylon is an ok album, a bit weak maybe.

it has some good songs like "gunface", "you dont have to mean it", "already over me" and "anybody seen my baby"

the rest of the album im not too fussed about, but i dont really listen to it much anyway.

as for dirtywork, that album is an embarrasment.

Re: Reconsidering the BRIDGES TO BABYLON album

I think Out Of Control is a great song. But on the album, it stinks. I don't like the sound, the guitars, the echo on the chorus or the playing.

But live it truly is one of the greatest stones tracks since the early 80s.

BTW, I heard a Faces-song the other day (or was it RS with The Faces?). The humming on OOC was crealy nicked from the Faces-tune. Anyone help me out here?

I hate the sound on B2B. Some great songs on it though. But somethings wrong with that album, not only soundwise. It doesn't have that certain "spirit". Can't explain.

The B2B tour was just awesome. Great memories.

Yes, it's the best song on the album IMO
