Last Lives Shows...at the 02 in London?

My gut feeling is they will call it a day after the 02 shows in London.

I think the Stones realise they need to stop before too much longer.

What do you think?

It depends on how the 2007 european tour will be.

In the IORR forum, it seems that people are very pessimistic (not enough sales and the first two shows seemed to be less than average). In fact, we are fans which means in one hand we are very indulgent, but on the other hands we are very critical (we are kinds of specialists who cannot stand to see them with an average level of performance).

So if you think that fans are very indulgent and if you look about what the same fan say about this tour... it means Stones performance are poor and they have reached their limit. But if you think that fans are critical... it is just the start of a new tour and the machine may be a little rusty.

I think I am a very critical fan and the 2006 european tour was absolutely brilliant, one of the best they made (according to me). I am waiting for the next show I will see (Paris 16 June) to make my own opinion...

But the main aspect is ticket selling.. if they don't sell enough tickets, it can signifies the end of such long tour. But they will give few shows (selling very expensive tickets in small arena).. I believe they are able to stop two years and to come back with very few shows selling extremely expensive tickets...

What do I think? I think that these types of threads need to stop. Nobody knows when it will stop, not you, not me, not even the Stones. This board is getting pretty unpleasant to read.

On what do you base this infinate knowledge that you have? What event(s) caused you to decide for the Stones that they should hang it up? I'm tired of people making stupid statements and having nothing to back it up. You don't know what the Stones "realise" any more than you know what I realise.

Take the negative remarks and shove them where the sun don't shine. Atleast then that thought(?) process would be where it deserved to be.

I just got a mental flash: I just realised the Stones can keep going for as long as they damn well please!

Peace

Yes you are right... but everybody has the right to tell his feelings. Sure, nobody knows the future (even the Stones themselves). But this is just an opinion... and I would like to be wrong, I would like them to continue.

I am ready for the 2009, 2010 and 2012 tours, my tongue and lips tee shirts are ready.. until they stopped. We are lucky to be fans of such a bands.. still alive and still the best. Long live to the Rolling Stones !!

I think it MIGHT be true. 2 years (or was it last year?) Keith and Mick went to amsterdam to take care of the royalties etc, for their children. Keith selling his building and and loosing staff in New York. The title of the tour (Biggest Bang)
And there were more signs which I forget know.
The rapid decline of Keith's playing has got me worried in a big way.

but who knows! I just feel the need to share my thoughts on the subject

YEEESSSS !!

I got block A3 seat 45 for the 2012 show at O2 arena (before being rebuilt and replaced by 03 arena) !! and... block 112 row B seat 173 for the first show being performed at the new O3 (Rolling Stones of course). Keith's side !!!

All my worries are about TM and Etix (I would like to receive my tix BEFORE the shows).

Please, let's end this worthless discussion. Twenty years ago the fans talked about the end of an era. They won't stop, believe me! In 2010 they will be back on the road again. They simply can't miss us and we still love them despite of lots of crap (ticket-prices, the condition of Keith and so on). F**k everyone, THE STONES WILL NEVER STOP.

They will never stop! It'll get downscaled after 50th anniversary but if they are here (Core 3 or4) it'll be small gigs, acoustic, blues, small venues etc. Now thats when it'll get exciting. MEZ (It'll end like their heroes muddy waters etc) typr thing. Then thereafter Jagger will tour another 10 years alone

Pretty much sure that Mick Jagger might be challenged the next time he will attend some events at new Wembley : damn it, I've not played there.

I dont necessarily think the 02 shows will be their final gigs (Unless one of them dies or is incapacitated before the next spate of live gigs begins) but I dont think they'll do a tour on this scale again (100-150 shows over 1-2 years etc)

I doubt the Stones will cease to exist as a band as long as they're still alive, but I DO think there are signs that they're starting something of a "wind down" in terms of regular activity.

I would be very surprised if they ever make another studio album of new material,

I'd love them to go in the studio and cut an album of blues covers.
can't see it happening...but I can dream if I want.

There's no publishing royalties in an album of covers, unfortunately...

doesn't anyone else actually want them to stop ?

i don't mean that in a bad way either. i mean it in a 'please end it with at least some dignity left' kind of way

its all getting a bit pantomime, and i'd hate for them to go out with a whimper

they've more than done their stint now. go with grace. by all means do some solo stuff, nowt wrong with that. but let the good RS name rest in peace and with its credibility at least somewhat intact

all this money/business bollocks is detracting away from what they were famous for. being a GREAT rock n roll band. not a corporate machine run by accountants

Well Andy JS, maybe time has come.
I think the last show I went to last year was one of the best ever. BUT it has to stop sometime and if they can't sell the tickets and do decent show this year time really is up for the old band.
I still hope that they can make this year's tour a great one and then call it a day before it really goes down hill.

Agree this is all speculation, but what happened to the concert they were going to do in Israel in September? That was announced just after the 3rd O2 concert went on sale - and everyone said "D'Oh!" because we had all fallen over ourselves to get the last O2 tix in case it WAS the last one? (Sorry, I'm too lazy to google it... long day gardening...)

And I thought I remembered some story from an interview after the last north americal leg ended in November, said they Stones had a tentative plan to keep going at least until 2012 which would be their 50th anniversary. Did anyone else hear that, or did I imagine it?

Deceided not to worry about it - fate will decide if they tour longer or stop earlier than anyone wants or plans. And the large tours are probably not going to be done much in future anyway, as it takes too many resources to conduct them - 70 trucks to haul equipment, private jets, at a time when climate change is such a hot button issue...

Personal fantasy? That they set themselves up somewhere every 3 months and play 2 or 3 small-venue gigs every week for a month... It would be great - less travel for them, lots of opportunity to vary the setlists... Imagine a month with ten shows at the Beacon in NYC, or other venues in London, LA, Toronto, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, Sydney, Rio, Prague, Madrid ... sort of a cooler version of Branson...

The answer depends on their health, first of all. No more studio albums, i think. But, if they're strong enough, i think the band will tour again. I'm not talking about 140 gigs, of course. Smaller tour, but tour.

Despite the pessimism here, i think ticket sales as for the entire ABB tour are encouraging for them. Folks, if the band does remain the most attended live act in the world BY THESE prices, they could easily do another one tour, if their health and their faculties are allowing this activity. What kind of tour? Who knows. Mayby making focusing on new places (as were Regina or Halifax on this tour). Maybe some big venues, but not this model of "well, we are to visting five times LA, five times NY and five times Chicago". Maybe an arena tour. In the last case, i'm extremely afraid of the prices they could charge...
