I am a 'show' collector. I have never been an 'original' collector. I started with tapes when CDRs did not exist. I only bought and buy originals when I have a special relation with the show, like if I was there, or something special happened.

The nice thing about the bootlegs was that it was known to collectors how good the recording was. With sites like Hendrik's and other's you knew when you were trading what quality you had. Now you have to DL the show and wait what it is. Much more time consuming.

Yes, very nice that you can have the show hours after it ended, but imo it's just more of a jungle now.

ChelseaDrugstore. Like Eric says, Azureus works very well. It,s free software. You will see different colour faces. You need to see a green smiley at least sometimes. Don,t worry if you are firewalled sometimes. This can happen. It,s good if you seed the torrent after it,s dld. So you help others. Especially if you use Dimedozen. When I,m online I run Azureus even when I,m not dld. So my Dimedozen ratio remains high.Good luck.

For me what is changing (has changed) is that in the past the boot market was made by collectors and music lovers, now only by collectors.

As far as there will be something that can be labeled as "rare", there will be a collector wanting to buy it.

From the point of a mere music lover (me) I will be forever thankful for the richness of what is now easily available for free (or almost for free - you still have to pay the hardware and connection). And whenever there is the possibility that culture is available at low cost, and with little barriers, this is good.

Yes that's all very true. The reason I started buying bootlegs, was because I had nothing to trade for, and nobody to trade with, and there weren't any torrent-sites in those days. I don't care for "collector's items" either, like promos or foreign releases, limited editions...both official and unoffical.
"The bootleg industry" must be very annoying to the traders who circulated the shows to begin with, for free.

Downloading FLAC files and torrents has really increased my collection but in a way, it seems like too much of a good thing for me. In the days when I had to trade for the shows I wanted or had to order them and wait for them to come, bootleg recordings were much more "sacred" if you will. I got more excited and I appreciated the recordings much more. I used to listen to every recording that I got in a trade or through the mail until I knew it inside out. Every nuance.

These days, I get so many shows at such a rapid pace that I only have time to listen to them once, jot down a few notes on the recording, and put them away.

Its also quite funny (and not a bit annoying) to read posts from fans within about a day of a show taking place getting frantic because no 'bootleg' of the gig is available yet....

On the message board on Rocks Off, theres a 'stickied' thread at the top of page 1 exclusively for bit torrents, where any show being 'announced' should have the full required info posted by the uploader.

If you're late in finding a torrent, when you look at the details of the show on the torrent page, it will give the date when it was uploaded. Just look at the torrent thread message board posts for that date and you should find the info you need.

Check out the Dog n Cat Records thread. This is also being tossed around there.

Hendrik, I loved those days too, when finding a rare bootleg was a thrill. I remember once finding a relatively obscure boot CD of Foxboro MA 1994, and posting about it on Undercover....and you wrote me and asked if I could find extra copies for you and your friends. I found one last copy and sent it to you as a courtesy. I used to love reading your website updates about boots.

I stopped trading CDRs 3 years ago. I really dislike them. No artwork. No liner notes. I don't value them at all. Now, once in a while, I'll see some boot I really want, and I'll buy it, but that's at best one CD a month, not much compared to my voracious buying habit of 10 years ago.

Yes, I remember (and appreciated) that; exactly my point; times have changed. Nothing wrong with that, it's just different. Still enjoying the Stones....

I think I once wrote you that I have a mono release, but only nm :-)

Personally I'm thinking that the bootleg-market is still making much money but the business changed and switched from CDs to DVDs. It's incredible how much copies of simple titles like Paris 76, LA 89, Texas 89 and many more (we already had for ages!) gets sold - no matter that one can find them torrented all over over Dime, RO, bootcity...

Still it's nearly impossible to buy original multi-colored TMoQ-releases on Ebay for less than a fortune. But on the other hand I bought a 3LP box-set last Saturday of the Baton Rouge afternoon-show which I'd never seen before for 28,- Euro. So I tend to say that the "real rarities" like TMoQ, RubberDubber, TAKRL keep their high prices (or often increase over the years) while the releases of other companies like TSP, Oh Boy, LL and others are more or less worthless nowadays.

Somebody with a spare-copy of JFK 78 (2LPs, Saturated or Phoenix - can't remember) out there??? Please make an offer, thanks ! :-)

Hi Hendrik,

time will tell if I'll ever HAVE TO sell this disc - but sorry, NO for the moment.

But I'm always interested in a trade. If you think you might have something special to offer in exchange I'd like to hear from you ([email protected]).

cheers
