The rhythmic section and Ronnie were steadier in 2003, but I prefer Keith's playing in 1995, and the groove back then was more offbeat. A

I like the 94-95 version, where Lisa is more involved, especially the Giants Stadium video with the camera/mic that's up in Mick's face.

..often these things are subjective.....but the Stones at the Garden during Licks were killer......they nailed that HBO concert.

can I say both?

I can see what you ment by the 94-95 version having an off-beat feel/groove
but the Licks version is smoking too.

the shoot 'em dead, brainbell jangler!

licks version is better imho, little to much lisa in 94-95 version, the song doesnt need vocal gymnastics, its not that type of song, although i loved hearing it in 94-95 because it was the first time ever played

Keith was better in 1995 but the 2003 version is better.

Totally agree about the Lisa overkill during the Voodoo Lounge tour. There's a great version from Philadelphia in 2002; I remember so clearly Mick going crazy.

Based on the 2 posted in this thread, I'd say the 2003 version

Tough nut indeed. I'll go with the 2003 version. The one with the Select-A-Stone from Four Flicks is stunning.

______ id like to see that version,, the 'going crazy' is hard to come by for quit awhile now, too long .....

was it o2-03, the staple center monkeyman was exquisite , one of the better numbers that night...

Didn't care for Lisa's input on that one. Licks version was outstanding.

anyone who thinks 1995 version was better is crazy. the guitars were just not loud and way down in the mix on voodoo lounge tour. this has been posted many tim before - the lack of loud guitar work during voodoo lounge. licks was much better, tighter, louder guitars. you have to be objective when looking at these shows. just b/c you love the stones does not mean they are above criticism and voodoo lounge tour was not a good one guitar wise. guitars way down in the mix.

The best versions I experienced were at shows in 2002 and 2003.

That's definitely one of the highlights from the MSG show. It would be great it they would play it this summer.
I love the solo, it seems kind of simple, but yet so beautiful and efficient.

Think the guitar parts on the '95 vbersion are better and mick voice on the 2003 is much better.

And the dress of Lisa is nicer on the '95 version ;o)

Exactly, and that's the Stones when they are best IMO.

Monkey man's solo from the studio version has been my all favorite Stones musical piece during some 20 years. 30 seconds that to me overules every other musical opus. No kidding, there is something transcendantal here.

I wasn t in love with the whole VL sound. Maybe the subtraction of Wyman caused this view. LOFL!!!!!!!! The shows were good, however, none of the 3 I saw stand out. The last 3 tours have sounded much better too these ears than VL. Monkey Man on Licks was stellar as was the whole show. I didn t get MM on ABB so I wouldn t know. What a fun tune.
