Yep, at least the fireside. I know I´m a tiny bit reactionary when it comes to music...

Rap to me is like endless chanting. So having said that, could "Shattered" be the Stones' attempt at rap?

I see rap and hiphop as a new way of expressing oneself.
Its like critizising poetry or art or anything.

People may think what they like; but whats the Big Deal with
people posting over & over "I dont like rap" without any explanations.

I also remember Mick saying in an interview he didn't like rap. "Its just not my thing" he said.

I have to say I agree with Keith's rap statement, at least based on what I've heard which definitely isn't all the rap in the world. At my college gym they are always playing really loud awful rap music that is full of people saying they are going to kill someone else and using foul language for the sake of the language. I'm not against using swear words when making a point but when the base of the song is f*** you over and over that is going to far in my opinion.
I know that there are rap songs that aren't like what I've described, but this seems to be what is popular because it is what is played on the radio so it is what people see as "normal" rap so it gives the whole genera a bad name. There may be some rap that I like or at least think is ok, but I've yet to find it. What is played on the radio seems to be so narrow and not giving other types of rap a place to be shown.

Rap is a cousin to Oral Poetry or Spoken Word.
If rap is crap then Doors is, Dylan, Jagger's lyrics.

You don't have to embrace the gangsta scene,
but it would be appropriate to see grown men post whole sentences?

This is, of course, completely true of mainstream hip hop which has become a revolting minstrel show, and every bit as offensive and denigrating to black people - men and especially women - as Jim Crow era cartoons.

However, there are plenty of interesting underground hip hop acts, or even semi-popular ones like The Roots who use - gulp! - REAL instruments and don't rhyme gatt with twat.

On top of that, I'm fast beginning to see that contemporary hip hop is one of the most homoerotic music genres around - all those muscles, guns as dick substitutes, that male bonding, that denigration of women, Fiddy Nonsense wearing what looked like a black geather boa on his pumped up, oiled torso, the homophobia, the glorification of jail, the trosers worn half way down the buttocks ... Rappers are closet gays.

I agree that Keith sounds old and out of touch with these comments. Rap/hip-hop is a genre with many outstanding artists--Blue Scholars from Seattle are an example of a quality, newer hip-hop group.

I, for one, am a little more high-minded about using the word "hate" in reference to a musical genre that consists largely of black people.
