What Guitar For Mr. D Live ?

What guitar do you think Keith used for "Dancing with Mr D" in the 73 Euro shows?
The reason I ask is because this is actually a very unique style for Keith to play live. On an uptempo number. It is not his 2-string riffing, it is not the Berry stuff, and it's not staright chords or freestyle lines. It's a totally fixed riff he is doing on the low strings; basically doing an Aminor chord in a riff of notes. Strums chords for the chorus.
He still is holding the band together. IMO a part like this takes the most dicipline to pull off correctly.
But Keith also goes up to the mike to sing the chorus with Jagger. I was thinking that this guitar sounds like either the skull & crossbone, or one of the other custom jobs. Are there any 73 photos of Keith singing with Jagger playing skull and bones? I am pretty sure DWMD was not a capoed song, nor was it open tuning.

Wasn't Keith's usual 6 string in Europe the brown Les Paul (Junior? Special?) double-cutaway with P-90s?

Assuming he plays "Mr. D" in standard tuning, of course.

Keith didn't have the Pirate Zemaitis yet in 73 - that was unveiled in 75.
in 73 he was using those odd-lookin little Newman-Jones five-strings a lot.

yes, that pretty brunette LP Junior and the black LP Custom.

Thanks Ssoulie, you are right of course. Skulls not yet in 73. I wish Mathijs was around. Mr D is not a song we mention often; and I really wonder what he played on it. What about "Angie"? (Your favorite Ssouliewinking smiley)

Keith used the '59 LP Junior for all standard tuned songs except Rambler, where he used the '54 LP Custom. For open G tracks he used the Newman Jones, except for Happy, JJF and SFM, although he did vary.

So, Dancing wth Mr. D was done on the Junior, as evidenced by various private 8mm film clips from the German shows.

good call Chelsea...is Live With Me another song you could add to this category of Keith holding the band down...sort of a Jimmy Page-esque way of doing guitar?

I dont think Keith sang backup vocals on this song. At least not live. I could be wrong, but I think Billy did the back up vocals. I've heard several versions and can never pick out Keith's vocals.

Speaking of the '73 European tour, I've seen footage and pics of Jagger carrying these huge balloon/ball looking things. They seem to be tied together or something and Jagger carries and kicks them around on stage. Anybody have any clue what song they were playing when he did this?

can you post some of these photos and/or (better yet!) the footage?
i think the only footage i have from Europe 73 is the Frankfurt SFM,
and all he's got in that are some bowls of rose petals or confetti
or whatever he was flinging around in Europe 73.

Tumblin I am pretty positive that it is Keith on BU vox for Mr D. It is his ragged voice and also his style of missing the mike in mid sentence too.
I saw video of Jagger kicking something. Was it @#$%&?
No, Tumblin, oddly enough it was during the Rambler.

Dandelion, is that you over on MYspace with the Barbariantwins? Killer grooves, really. You boys grow some funk in Oslo. Which one are you?

Nope, sorry.

About the back up vocals on "Mr. D" Chelsea, I gotta respectfully disagree. I still don't think Keith sang on it. At least not the live version. My ears just can't pick him out, whereas I have no problem picking him out on YCAGWYW, a song where Billy and Keith both sing backup. But that's just me.

This place would be boring if we all agreed on everything.

I have pics of Rotterdam '73 with Jagger and these "skippy balloons", and they were playing Honky Tonk Women.

Isn't Billy Preston on Bvox on DWMD?

I was just looking at similar pics at Rosenbluth's site; with those ballons. I had read a review in newspaper the next day where they said that Jagger was kicking around balloons during Rambler. But the reporters often get that stuff wrong.

What are those ballons supposed to be...? They look like balls with veins, is this the lower part of the TOTA equipment ?
On other pics there's a ballon that seems to be the World...

Ok thanx Mathijs. I wonder what those balls were supposed to be?

Yeah that's what I think.
