FOUR FLICKS U.S. SALES
Posted by: Pecman ()
Date: May 9, 2007 00:28

I just read in another post that this sold 1.9 Million in the U.S.

I just checked soundscan and the reported sales are 359,603 units. Since most of these are sold in stores like Best Buy, Virgin, WalMart etc. it is all she wrote.

Severly doubt this sold 1.5 million in mom & pop stores that don't have Soundscan or some sales tracking device.

Still a pretty impressive # considering ABB CD didn't do much more.

Multiple it by 4 (cause it's 4 discs) and you got the number of 1.5 million.

I think every real Stones fan should own Four Flicks. Really worthwhile.

Thanks a lot Pecman for the numbers, since you have access to Soundscan could you please check sales for the Stones' SOLO albums during the Soundscan era, especially for Mick and Keith?
Thanks in advance.

Didnt Best Buy have some kind of exclusive offer on it where right from the sale date you could buy it ridiculously cheap? Like,,.$20 or something?

It retailed at almost £50 in the UK..about four times as much!

Platinum sales for DVD are not equivalent to 1 million units as they are with CDs. Check out the RIAA's website. 1.9 million looks to be the certification based on units shipped.

1.9 million units shipped. And then 1.5 million UNSOLD units got shipped right back. Someone seriously overestimated the number of truly hardcore Stones fans that exist in the world.

Got nothing to add; just want to say that I had glanced at the thread title and thought it read "For F*ck's Sake" OOps

475,000 is the number of shipped copies (475k x 4: 1.9m), only 100k are unsold. ABB is worse: 537,000 copies sold, 1+ million shipped...

Always helps to read threads and get caught up before posting.

Contrary to your theory about lack of hardcore Stones fans, Four Flicks is one of or maybe THE best selling dvd OF ITS KIND. Hard to top 19x platinum.

If there is another concert dvd that has sold more (and there may be) I would like to know which one.

Actually, there really aren't many hardcore fans like us. Attendance at any Stones show anywhere will reveal this. Go to a Dylan or John Prine show afterwards and compare. Sad but true.

How are you judging it? By the behavior of the audience? How would you even know who is a hardcore fan and who isn't and how can they gross over 400 million without a huge hardcore fan base?
Not too many casual fans will buy a concert dvd of The Stones when they are in their sixties so the huge sales of Four Flicks is a testament to their hardcore fan base.

The Zeppelin DVD that was released in May of 2003 sold 1,033,545

The Song Remains The Same DVD sold 175,795.

So how is that more than 1.9 million?

Re: FOUR FLICKS U.S. SALES

because its not multiplied by four to achieve that figure.

if georgelicks figures are correct, it sold 375,000 x 4, not 1.9 million

RIAA multiplies it by four for a reason Gazza. It's a multi disc set so the unit sales get multiplied by the number of discs. It's the same for every artist anyway.

Now if you tell me the Zeppelin dvd was a mutli disc set and is certified by RIAA as more than 19x platinum then it will be a better selling dvd.

I really wish you people would get away from soundscan and start using RIAA which is the one that is officially recognized by the music industry anyway. Neither one is perfect but RIAA is a lot more accurate in my opinion.

How come then the ABB Tour is the largest grossing tour of all time? How many stadiums does John Prine fill in a year or even Dylan for that matter.

Four Flicks SHIPPED 475,000 copies, that's 1.9 million DVD's (475,000 x 4), it sold 360,000, 110.000 copies are unsold. The real certification for units sold should be 15x platinum.

I'm not going to get on Dylan since the guy is a rock and roll god but to tell you the truth I never even heard of John Prine until that other poster mentioned him yesterday. Not sure how he can be compared to The Stones in any way shape or form.

We can debate all day whether to go with RIAA numbers or soundscan numbers but even if you take the soundscan numbers as being totally accurate (which they aren't) 15x platinum is still probably the best selling dvd of its kind. It still outsold the Zeppelin dvd mentioned above- unless that was more than one disc.

It was a two disc set. It sold 1,033,545 copies according to the above stats so that makes the total units 2.063 million give or take a few.

The Stones one is 360,000 x 4 discs = 1.44 million

Dress it up whatever way you choose, the Zeppelin one sold more. It also appears to have been the biggest selling music DVD in the US for three years
