This is from memory, but I believe Brian played oboe on Baby You're a Rich Man.

Brian plays acoustic guitar for some early takes, but he's on organ for the remainder of the session. His playing is strikingly different and weaker sounding during the session than Keith's and it's Keith's stronger, confident playing that can be heard on the released version.
Brian doesn't appear to be present for the 2000 Man session. All of the guitars are by Keith, organ by Nicky Hopkins.
Mick has said that Brian didn't play any guitar on TSMR, make of that what you will.
He certainly played on the early takes of The Lantern though, we hear him talk, Glyn talks to him about tuning up etc, but that seems to be the only proof of him playing guitar on the double box sets.

I think it's obvious that the dates etc are messed up, it's to be expected imo.

(I don't know on what basis Mathjis assigns bass to Bill for every track - and every version of Lantern).

Some sources have Keith on bass on 2000 Light Years From Home.
I suppose he could have overdubbed bass on this and/or other tracks.

Because the acoustic is played by Keith during the basic backing track session, which also has Bill on bass, Brian on organ, Nicky on piano, Charlie on drums.

I would love to hear outtakes / demos of the Satanic album with vocals. Were they ever trialed as a full band or were vocals added later to backing tracks?
Glyn disliked Brian as a person. But he always respected him as a musician. Gered and Stu did so as well. That's being fair in my book.Quote

As Brian left the control room, sound engineer Glyn Johns extolled the Stones musicianship.
"Brian´s incredible," he said, "did you hear that harp on the last track - he played that - just picked it up in the studio."

Fantastic topic and interesting read! Thanks everybody!
But...I must say this... Brian is present in the mix on Citadel where he plays flute and saxophone. He is there in the background..simple but (as always with Jones) it fits the track, He is also most likely playing brass and flute on Sing This All Together (See What Happens). During the freakout,

About Brian and the guitar... Brian's broken wrist was a mess that didn't heal and that may be a part of the explanation why his playing on Satanic Session sucks. I don't know. Compare it with his playing at RnR Circus. He takes it very easy. You guys probably knows better if he did so at the live concerts in 67 as well?

the satanic sessions are not new arent they ? I have them and I remember Keith furious saying something like "we are taking care of the guy of the studio responsible for that".
I stand corrected. If only someone kept info on who played what...Quote

I think it's unlikely that he's play the actual brass instruments heard on STAT, it would require a whole lot of track bouncing etc for all of that to be one person. Again the flute could be anybody, no strong proof it's Brian.

Just found an interesting little comment in a 1967 Beat Instrument in which they mention that the stones were at de lane lea studios working on tracks for their forthcoming album.
Always thought that the album was mostly done at Olympic with some kind of further work taking place at bell sound in USA... Vocals final mastering?
Wonder what was recorded at de lane Lea!?
