There are many reasons to still love them but one of the top of my head;
Because they have stuck around all this time, putting out records and touring, unlike some other bands that packed it in in say 1970.

yeah but i know that there are "ex stones" fans who now hate the stones because they just do it for the money.

I don't believe in that love hate relation. They seem to be fine on stage. Show after show. Year after year. If you have even seen Simon and Grafunkel on stage lately you will know the difference.

I don't think they do it just for the money and I think fans that no longer like the band because they believe that are just cheating themselves. Do they do it all for the fans? No, it is a combination of money, ego and the fans.

They have more money than they could ever spend and if it were all about ego Jagger wouldn't be making a solo album that will get no recognition instead of a Stones albums that will at least make a splash.

If they were in it JUST for the money they would have stopped along time ago. probably after the 89 tour.

They still have class, ultimate R & R style and leave all other bands in the shade!

£150 to see them? - You bet.

"one reason to still love the Stones..."

Their performances...

Their music - last albums included...

The fact that they could make a lot of money, easily, in different ways: Movies, books, commercials, etc. Or realizing some of their uknown stuff -at "best". But they have the balls to do what they love. Rocking, touring. Staying with us- flesh and blood...

Because it's the only band that I don't get depressed from their music like Doors for example,so they keep me happy and on my feet.

That's a really great answer. I never thought about that, but it's true. The shit just makes me happy.

one reason to still love the stones ?

Whether or not they still do it because ...

(a) they want to break financial records
(b) they want to break attendance records
(c) they still can
(d) they've got nothing better to do
(e) it seemed like a good idea at the time
(f) the man above spoke to them in their dreams and told them to
(g) they're still passionate about it and they love it

... the fact of the matter is they're still out there, they're still playing for us, and they're still a feature of our lives in terms of live performances.

So whether or not they do it because of any one reason or any combination of reasons, I for one will celebrate the fact that they're still out there. And when they hit that stage, I will never be convinced that for those two hours - they're not truly giving it their all. Yeah yeah yeah, they f*** this up, they f*** that up, they forget this, they forget that, Taylor v Wood, KR din't play this or that as well as he did on the studio version 50,000 years ago ... and so on and so on. I know all that, don't we ALL know all that ?

BUT .............. we should GIVE THANKS people, because we still 'ave 'em !! Warts and all, but we still 'ave 'em !!

Wait for it ... I'm now gonna get lambasted for swallowing it all hook line and sinker and for being conned and ripped off and all the rest of it. OK, I'm ready, hit me with the barrage ......... !! That's what discussion boards are for !!

It's only Rock 'n Roll but I like it!

It's the ultimate excitement prior to a gig I guess... among many other things. Specific songs, grand like Out of Control or small like Sleep Tonight.

Even though "A Bigger Bang" was a slighty below par album (when compared to their 1990s era work), there still are a few great tunes on there like "Let Me Down Slow", "She Saw Me Coming", "Driving Too Fast", "Infamy", "Back Of My Hand" and "Rough Justice". But writing a follow-up to a best-of-collection that includes more good tunes than almost any best-of-collection by any other band ever could ("Forty Licks") is an unsurmountable feat, so I don't really mind that they failed at topping that compilation.

I still enjoy their music and hope they've got another album in them.

The fact that they keep going. The Stones have been an integral part of my life and my friends' lives.

After being a fan for over 25 years I am glad that they keep delivering. It's hard to imagine the Stones not being around.

Actually, i can't select one only reason to still love them. One thousand reasons would be a realistic level...

They have done all the things you mentioned to make money. Not to mention all the corporate sponsorships. Who would have thought they'd do a Mercades ad or that Keith would be in a Disney movie.

And as far as releasing their archived stuff, I think if they knew it would make a lot they would release them, but there is not much money in releasing a show from say 1972, yeah we'd love it but it wouldn't sell as much as releasing another greatest hits package.

Many reasons to still love the Stones. We wouldn't be on this site otherwise.

Yes, but my point was a bit different: i mean, if the Stones hadn't the indispensable passion to do what they still love, they would do much more business like these i mentioned. Out of the music. Even if the money wasn't as big, as the money that comes from five million people paying a lot to see the band live, i can't imagine these billionairs torturing themselves. Because doing big tours, performing two hours per show in the age of 65, i suppose is a big torment IF you don't really like it. So i appreciate absolutely the fact that these old rich devils still have the passion to rocking.

You're right, but i don't mean live stuff. I'm sure they have unknown studio stuff- and maybe a huge one. Perhaps a lot of tapes... They could do a kind of "grave robbing", as Macca did in middle 90s. When he was releasing stuff rejected by the Beatles...And this method brings money...

To paraphrase:

Well, their coats are torn and frayed
They've seen much better days
but as long as the guitars play
They'll steal your heart away
They'll steal your heart away
