Posted by: Jon Lasa ()
Date: April 30, 2007 11:02

Hi all.

Should someboby could help...

The plan is:
buy a 70,00 pounds Upper Tier,
arrive at Stansted at noon,
take a bus to Victoria,
take the tube to O2 (show start is expected at 6 p.m.)
and come back, just after the show, (at ....?) same route.

August, the 26th.

Thank you so much.

Hi all

Well, I expect I don´t need binoculars from the upper tier
and I would like to know if the tube/buses run in the night.

Thank you.

National Express coaches to Stansted run all night.
here's the site where you can check the timetables: [www.nationalexpress.com]

You can also take he express train from Stansted to Liverpool Street, than the tube (circle line) to Victoria Station. You never know about the London traffic on the surface, the trains and the subway are much more reliable IMO.

my posting on an earlier thread:

"For getting to Stansted from the O2 or anywhere in London, you might consider taking an A9 coach service from London Stratford station. Stratford is on the same tube line as North Greenwich, unlike Liverpool Street and Victoria.

It's run by National Express, reliable and operates 24 hours, will take luggage, and at £8 single considerably cheaper than the rip off Stansted Express rail link. The journey time is about the same as on the train.

No need to book, pay on the bus (cash only I think).

I've used this service many times, and can recommend."

Stratford is only 3 direct stops on the tube to North Greenwich (next to the O2).

How far is it.....?

How far is it from Stansted airport to th O2 arena? My plane arrives at 7PM. Will I make the concert? Does The Stones start any earlier than 9PM?

I don't know exactly how far it is but take note the planes are sometimes late.

I think an express train from Stansted to liverpool street stationtakex 45 minutes to an hour, then you would have to get a tube or a taxi from there.

If you have only hand luggage, and take the Stanstead Airport Express train to Liverpool Street Station. They depart every 15 minutes and the journey takes 45 minutes. If your flight's on time and you carry only hand luggage, you'll be ok. But if there's a delay, and you have real luggage, like a suitcase you check in... Forget it.
Here's a link to Stanstead Airport - how to get to and from and how long it takes: GOOD LUCK!

Thanx. I only bring hand luggage usually, and will do the same thing this time.

Anyone of you know how far it is by tube from Liverpool Street Station to the O2? And does the tube go directly from Liverpool Street Station to the O2?

I think your best option would be to take the central line eastbound to stratford (3 stops) then take the jubilee line down to North Greenwich.

Sorry but you will NOT make it. The Stones go on stage at 8:20pm sharp always in London, because of the curfew at 10:30. You need extra time in the passport control and transfer. O2 is in the Docklands area and not central for transport. You need another 10-15 minutes there. I would get an earlier flight. But by all means, if you like to gamle it is technicallyn theoretically possible, but how often do you see tghe Stones at the O2, and why take the chance of loosing half of the show?

As it's almost all on main roads the National Express A9 bus service takes around 45 minutes, the same as the train, a return ticket at £15 will be less, and at Stratford you'll be much closer to the O2.

There's a 19:25 departure from Stansted, if you can make this then you could be in the O2 by the time Keith starts his set. Good luck.

Oh no, I'm not gonna gamble, but it's a question of time and money. I just neede to know what is possible. If this can't be done, I will come in earlier. It's a pity the show doesn't happen on Saturday. It would have done things so much easier. But we'll make it anyway. :-)

Agree with all of that, although that curfew you refer to applies to outdoor shows at Wembley and Twickenham.

Indoor venues may or may not have their own curfew time.

Hi all,

as I have never been before on a show in London,

or do they rest sitting during the show?

They did start half an hour later for the indoor Wembley Arena shows in 2003 i.e. 8:50pm rather than 8:20pm so it is probably correct that you have half an hour extra because of this. Also, the O2 area is not all that residential, so you never know. I have made it to Wembley stadium one time in 1990 at 8:20 and show start was the next minute. I had been running the distance from the tube station to the stadium in 3 minutes. Normally it takes 10 minutes at least. I did even have time to grab a beer before I was inside the stadium just one minute before they went on stage. It is not recommended.

I am much faster now in fact. I could still do that run in 3 minutes if needed believe me! Only difference is now I do not book flights at 3pm on show day to London anymore. That flight back in 1990 was cancelled, and I got another one at 5pm, leaving late, ending up at Heatrow with no cab drivers willing to take me to Wembley, because there were two big events there at the same time (Prince doing a zillion nights in a row at the arena or something like that). So I ended up taking the tube in a circular direction through the outskirts of London, changing tubes two times, running like crazy, still with a beer in my hand before show start. The show ended up on the IMAX movie, and for the 2nd show I was up front swimming among other fans saying goodbye to Bill Wyman doing his final Stones show. Great memories!

Yep

as far as I recall, the Shepherds Bush show in 1999 saw the Stones start at around 9.20 - 9.30. I think they had an 11 pm curfew and may have been fined for going a few minutes over it (the show lasted around 100 minutes)

PS. I think they have different rules for letting 1,800 people vs. 22,000 people out in the streets at late hours. Sort of larger crowds making more noise. Just like there are different rules when the crowd leaves the stadium after a Man U game vs. a team playing in the amateur league. SBE was a club show. Clubs have different rules I think. The O2 is an arena, not a club. But I do agree, if the flight is dead on time and you run, it is theoretically possible to get to the opening song. We are currently taking bets!

it was as late as that? Wow

I do recall they were a bit late getting started but didnt think it was THAT late! the bit about them being fined for going past the curfew was right, though wasnt it?
