What happened to Hot Rocks 1972-1983 or did I miss a thread?

There's a lot of stuff that don't belong anywhere near a greatest hits package...

I'm confused. The Stones released no material in '84 or '85, nor did they release any material in 2007.

Okay, I'm smartass here, but actually they did: maxi single "She Was Hot" was released in 1984 with B-side "I Think I'm Going Mad" - a song that should make the Hot..well.. Warm Rocks list... In fact, I think I haven't heard them sounding better ever since.

Wow-- doesnt this show that a Hot Rocks 1984-2007 would really pale in next to the origional Hot Rocks ?

Not really. I could make a Hot Rocks 1984-2007 that would better better than the above and I'd like it just as much.

This thread is all hypothetical of course, I think the songs I mentioned are among the best of the period. Name yours!

I think "Jump On Top Of Me" and "So Young" need to be included.

"No Anchovies, Please"

Not bad, but I was really trying to get an opinion on the BEST songs of the modern era, not neccesarily the songs that were released as singles. Just what you guys, THE REAL FANS, considered the best songs the Stones have recorded since after 'Undercover'.

Chronological Order cuz I don't want to figure out a tracklisting right now...

One Hit
Continental Drift
Rock and a Hard Place
Mixed Emotions
Highwire
Love is Strong
You Got Me Rocking
Out of Tears
Sparks Will Fly
Like a Rolling Stone
Slipping Away (Stripped)
Flip the Switch
Saint of Me
Out of Control
Thru and Thru
Don't Stop
Let Me Down Slow
Rain Fall Down
Oh No Not You Again
Laugh, I Nearly Died

... 20 songs, probably would fit on one disc... hmm... you know, I really wouldn't mind a "hits of the last 20 years" type of thing to go before the European tour. Might give them reason to pull out (relatively) new songs that they've forgotten...

Highwire! I knew I left something out! Love the chords on that one.
'I Go Wild' is another that would make the cut.

Since I skipped Dirty Work, here are my picks from 89 onwards

Sad Sad Sad
Mixed Emotions
Rock And A Hardplace
Almost Hear You Sigh
Break the Spell
Highwire
Love Is Strong
Sparks Will Fly
Out Of Tears
Moon Is Up
Brand New Car
Blinded By Rainbows
Jump On Top Of Me
Flip the Switch
Already Over Me
Gunface
Out Of Control
You Don't Have To Mean It
Saint Of Me
Too Tight
Thief In the Night
How Can I Stop
Don't Stop
Stealing My Heart
Rough Justice
Let Me Down Slow
She Saw Me Coming
Driving Too Fast
Infamy
We Don't Wanna Go Home (long version)

Now let's choose 15 of these and add a new song and there you have it!

A collection like this, would always focus on single a-sides. Therefore, you would never see a track like Break The Spell anywhere near a compilation.

A good point could be made to include some more "Fazed Cookies" at the end, so it would look something like this:

Disc 1:

1. Bitch
2. Tumbling Dice
3. Happy
4. All Down The Line
5. Angie
6. (Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo) Heartbreaker
7. It's Only Rock 'N Roll (But I Like It)
8. Ain't Too Proud To Beg
9. Dance Little Sister
10. Fool To Cry
11. Crazy Mama
12. Hot Stuff
13. Miss You
14. Beast Of Burden
15. Respectable
16. Shattered
17. Emotional Rescue
18. She's So Cold

Disc 2:

1. Start Me Up
2. Waiting On A Friend
3. Hang Fire
4. Undercover Of The Night
5. She Was Hot
6. Harlem Shuffle
7. One Hit (To The Body)
8. Mixed Emotions
9. Rock And A Hard Place
10. Almost Hear You Sigh
11. Terrifying
12. Highwire
13. Sexdrive
14. Love Is Strong
15. You Got Me Rocking
16. Out Of Tears
17. I Go Wild
18. Like A Rolling Stone
19. Wild Horses (Stripped version)

Disc 3:

1. Anybody Seen My Baby?
2. Saint Of Me
3. Out Of Control
4. Don't Stop
5. Streets Of Love
6. Rough Justice
7. Biggest Mistake
8. I Think I'm Going Mad
9. Cook Cook Blues
10. The Storm
11. So Young
12. Jump On Top Of Me
13. I'm Gonna Drive
14. Honest I Do (Stripped version)
15. Hurricane
16. Under The Radar
17. Don't Wanna Go Home

This is not the right order, but here goes (And it's not really the hits, but rather the songs I like mixed with hits)....

Rough Justice
Back Of My Hand
Under The Radar
Rain Fall Down
Streets Of Love
Flip The Switch
Out Of Control
How Can I Stop
Always Suffering
The Storm
Love Is Strong
You Got Me Rocking
Sparks Will Fly
Thru And Thru
Sad Sad Sad
Rock And A Hard Place
Mixed Emotions
Break The Spell
Highwire
One Hit (To The Body)
Harlem Shuffle
Fight
Don't Stop

Jesus, that would be one strong compilation this. Truly kick-ass.

A Hot Rocks 1984 to 2007 (With songs solely from this period) hasn't been done at all.

1. One Hit
2. Hold Back
3. Dirty Work
4. Hold On To Your Hat
5. Continental Drift
6. Break The Spell
7. Moon Is Up
8. Thru And Thru
9. Gunface
10.Might As Well Get Juiced
11.It Won't Take Long
12.My Sweet NeoCon

but, not in chronological order; in fact, 7.-12. would serve as decent fillers.
