Hi Whitem8, Im a Scot but was lucky enough to see the Stones St Louis gig last January. The band were great and I loved the venue BUT...everyone around us was sitting eating buckets of popcorn and they either left or talked all through Keefs songs. Can't comment on Detroit obviously, tho I know its got a great reputation as a Rock n Roll city. As a Glaswegian I'm biased, but the atmosphere at Hampden was awesome. Its just a shame the radio broadcast didnt pick up the crowd.
My head is still spinning from the energy at River Plate, Buenos Aires 2/23/06 (the rain show)... Of course, that was my first show (Stones or anyone else) outside of North America or the UK.

You generalize, sir (or m'aam as the case may be). At most every concert I have seen in the USA (29 since 75), I and everyone around me have been standing for the entire show. And this, regardless of whether they have seating or not. Yes, sometimes mostly in the upper decks/tiers there are people sitting but even then not necessarily for the ENTIRE show.
I can most proudly point to the band's first show in my state of Montana in Missoula on October 4, 2006 -- at that show I was on the floor, 13th row, and I deliberately looked around the entire stadium several times including the seats furthest away up high and at the opposite end of the stadium from the stage, and for the ENTIRE show, from what I could see, EVERYONE was standing.
Oh, and I am very pleased with all the people who have said Barcelona, or some Spanish city, or some Spanish speaking country, as I am going to the Barcelona show (along with Frankfurt, Paris, Lyon, and London).
I always believed and saw that whenever they came through Chicago..they always planned something extra special for us. They would change the set lists around...move songs around...and give us a bit more than usual. It seemed to me that they always treated Chicago just as well as they did New York.
