Stones deny Live Earth-appearance

Found this one... You can't trust FOX!!!

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The Rolling Stones have denied a Fox News web report that they will play the Live Earth show in Britain on July 7.

"Not happening," a spokesman for the band said in an email.

Fox News columnist Roger Friedman reported on Tuesday that the Stones would headline the show at London's Wembley Stadium.

Such an appearance would have necessitated postponing the band's previously announced show for Rome on July 6, as it no longer plays consecutive nights.

Seven Live Earth shows will take place around the globe on July 7 to draw attention to environmental issues. The Rolling Stones, largely at guitarist Keith Richards' behest, rarely align themselves with political events, although Hollywood producer Steve Bing did pay them to play a free concert in Los Angeles four years ago to benefit an environmental group.

Great news ???

For the italian fans for sure, but for the image of the band it could've been cool to participate, after the ecological concert they made during the Licks Tour.
I don't appreciate the childish political blabber of Bono, but ecology is vital and I think it is a cause in which the Stones could have invested themselves one more time

Is this the same spokeman that said they would not play at the O2 arena?

We all know that they've spoken up for green values (not only Keith's pot-smoking!) earlier. We all know they've bought carbon quotas for the tour. They actually don't have to prove anything when it comes to speaking up for the environment. They've taken a stand - several times. And I respect them for it. (this is an issue that's very important for me - kids, you know! We want our kids and future grandkids to have a good life in safe surroundings, with access to fresh water, clean air etc, don't we?)

However - WE CAN TAKE RESPONSABILITY, TOO! When going on tour this summer - if possible - use public transportation. If impossible - drive several people in one car. Going by air? Buy carbon quotas (2-3 GBP per journey) - do like the Stones!

Great news although I couldn't imagine, not even the stones, they would have moved that date

Tralala - I know you've mentioned their carbon quotas before but I have never heard of this - can you explain their buying of carbon quotas?

Re: Stones deny Live Earth-appearance

Yes! Since they have to do most of their transportation by air (and a train of huge trucks on the motorways), they've paid money to a fund that helps install rinsing systems in powerplants run on for instance coal... This is a projest run by the EU, the UN and the IAEA, I believe.

Stones, Coldplay and Dave Matthews have purchased carbon quotas.

Wanna read more? Go to Google: type carbon neutral rolling stones, and the entire list comes up. Very interresting and usefull reading.

I heard this on the radio dthis morning - it does NOT come from my own speculation...

The reason for this is that they can't perform "back to back" shows anymore.

Meaning, this band is no longer able to perform 2 2-hour shows within a 48 hour timeframe.

Rock and Roll.

Certainly all for "being green", but I personally would rather not see them aligned with Gore and his merry band of doom and gloomers

Why not just add a few opening bands to the Rome show and call it a "Live Earth" show? They're already having Live Earth shows in multiple cities aren't they?

Oh, so you'd rather trust the "don't worry-lobby" sponsored by the oil companies. Those "16 guys" are the only ones who find reasons not to believe we've f**ked up the climate seriously. And they've been paid huge money to say so. Even Bush and the right wing christians admit we're in deep shit at that action has to be taken. The Stones are intelligent men who have of course realised this.
Actually Al Gore has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for helping focus on the envoronmental issues we're facing. And I support that.

As do I. At least one American politicaian makes sense.

We definitely should worry about/do something about the environment/climate and what we have done to it.
I'm 59 years old and have supported environmental causes ever since I was a teen.
I will continue to do so, but I'm just not going to support Gore's self-importance/ego while I do it.
I'm not a Republican and I don't work for an oil company.

You made me think about a book I've read a few months back...State of Fear.

Really makes you wonder.

You got a choice really.
You either make an effort and support change in the way we treat the 'world' or you shrug your shoulders and let things continue.
But if the warnings are correct and no effort is made then you'll have one massive regret for the future generation.......

thanks for the info tralala...

and gmanp...gore's ego has nothing to do with it. if his ego was that big, he would've challenged the vote count in 2000. unfortunately for us, he played the part of the southern gentleman and bowed out.

I agree 100%. The unfortunate thing is alot of people don't realize, that our vote in the year 2000,did not even count. That is the biggest down fall of all,IMO.

I give Gore credit for trying to educate people on global warming (regardless of how accurate I think his documentary is) but give me a freaking break.

You must have lived through a different 2000 than I did. Gore asked for recount after recount making himself look like a sore loser every step of the way. He didn't bow out gracefully like a southern gentleman. Maybe you were listening to Stones records instead of watching CNN smiling smiley

But congrats to him for reinventing himself and making some useful contribution to a cause he apparently believes in very strongly.

I followed it. He didn't pursue the recount as much as he could have. The Florida Supreme Court granted him a full recount, but he settled for a partial recount, then bowed out. Remember?
