Oooh, good choice. Fripp's work on "Evening Star" is *way* up there as well. I also gotta agree w/"Cortez The Killer", "Marquee Moon" and the obvious Stones ones already listed (which makes me wonder why this thread is designated "OT").

In a non-trad. rock format I'll add Pat Metheny's work on Joni Mitchell's "Amelia" from her live album SHADOWS AND LIGHT.

Led Zep has been listed but I don't think anyone mentioned my favorite: "Ten Years Gone".

The solo on VU's "I Heard Her Call My Name" is brain-shredding.

I'll think of a dozen more as soon as I send this.
