They opened with it on Live at the Ten Spot (MTV) and it was fantastic. A lot of energy and really gets the crowd going. I think it is a great opening!

They didn't really open with Tumbling Dice at that gig, they had just played Honky Tonk WOmen and LSTNT but they were omitted from the broadcast.

I wish they'd open with When I'm Sixty-Four for the late summer shows, at least on July 26th.

If they keep it in just about every set list,I would rather see Tumbling Dice towards the end, maybe fourth to last.I suppose they could open with it a few times but, most likely not for a whole tour.

Well they opened with paint it black. I don't see why they couldn't open with TD. I've heard worse ideas. Like opening with the jam from CYHMK and segueing into Love is Strong. Love is Strong? Elmo, did Lukester ship you some of that NC prison grade meth or what?

Ok, well, on the broadcast anyhow....and it seemed great as an opening.

Elmo's idea was not to open with the jam from CYHMK and segue it "Love Is Strong". His idea was to open with the FIRST half of CYHMK, and then seque into "Love Is Strong".

Well, that would be better than You Got Me Rocking which they have opened with.

BUSTED.........My bad Elmo. Didn't grasp that concept clearly enough. Still trying to recover from Rock & Roll Weekend Part Deaux.

Opening with TD is a great idea. Mick, Chuck, are you listening!? TD will not only get the crowd pumped, but it will give them that excitment deep inside when they hear the opening riff knowing the stones are about to jump out!

Well I didn't think too much of NFA as opener from all the vids I've seen until I came across this one:

Bloody hell! That one rocks. In all vids I've seen, Mick just walks on from the right of the stage and then takes a bow. But here he's ejected from down the stage with the lift he also used on Sympathy during VL.

Has anyone got any idea what show/video this version is from?

It's from the Voodoo Lound Tour Souvenir VHS that was sold at concerts in 94/95. From Giants Stadium, NJ, August 14th 1994,
it's a good video, they're kinda relaxed on stage

I would like to see TD as an opener. It's one of the best stones songs ever- the first 10 seconds of TD makes you realize how great the stones are. Also lyrics are great to get the audience singing.

other contenders-

I thought Paint it black worked well as an opener. just punp up the drum sound up when charlie kicks in.

I always like the HTW into from 75 shows. lights off- just keiths rhythm from HTW- lights up- Charlie, then Mick and the band kick it down.

Re: Mick coming out of the stage, they tried using the lift on NFA rather than Sympathy on the first few Voodoo Lounge shows and decided it worked better during Sympathy, and I agree.

Seeing Mick just casually stroll on stage like he's anywhere in the world, and then THAT vocal line starts and suddenly it's a Stones gig. Classic.

However, my favorite "modern times" opener has to be Satisfaction from the B2B tour, that song *can* still be amazing if they keep it short (which they typically do with the openers).

also had this in mind sme time ago...! not one of their greatest songs, but You Got Me Rocking ain't one of their greatest too but always rocks the house when played live, Dont Wanna Go Home could work in a similar way, and as a show closer it could work wonders!!!

as for the opener, they should do something unexpected, Im thinking a rousing uptempo version of 19th Nervous Breakdown would be great!
