Thanks.

They played Northern Ireland twice in the late 70's - I was at the game in Belfast in which George Best played one of his last international games. Maybe that was just before your time? I think Edvaldssson, who played for Celtic, would have been playing for Iceland around then. What club team did you play for?

SV Odijk - center forward in the early '80. Best match against...

You maybe played in Northern Ireland then. I think Valur played a couple of European games here in the mid to late 70's. Valur is from Reykyavik, right?

Greg, youre crackin me up here..LOL

Only in my dreams, when I singlehandedly - or better, "singlefootedly" - revenged those two lost WC-finals from the '70's!

Thats my team - Linfield. However, Linfield never played Valur in Europe. It would have been Glentoran (spit!) who played you in the European Cup in 1977. The only Icelandic team Linfield ever played was Hafnafjordur, in 1994.

Something keeps coming up in my mind: all those years of torture in the Amsterdam Arena, each and every time accompanied by many complaints about sound, venue, treatment and everything, lead to nothing from the side of the promotor, MOJO. And now, when I lost all hope for a non-A'dam ArenA show in the Netherlands ever again, suddenly the Stones seem to be playing the Goffertpark. Has Mojo also finally lost all hope for good sound in the ArenA? Can't believe that: they invest in the stadium as a company, the stadium has invested in "sound improving measures", they keep staging other artists there... so no arguments for the Goffertpark here.

Other option: maybe MOJO will not promote this show? Maybe the Stones don't want to play the ArenA again, and told MOJO to find something else?

I'm clueless, but happy. It will probably be not easy to park your car, to reach the field, to find a front rail spot, to find shelter from the weather. But for sure if we leave aside the modern comfort of consumer-oriented rock 'n roll shows in facilitated stadiums, and think back of the days of REAL waiting and hours of pre-show fun in front of the stage, urinating behind trees and the glamour of real beer in carton, instead of event-beer in plastic, it will be a great time and a fantastic show. Better sound, great day, totally worn out next day: ROCK 'n ROLL!

The Press Conference-thread quotes a French fansite, that mentions friday 8th of june as the "confirmed" date for the Stones show in het Goffertpark, Nijmegen. As you've probably already have seen... ;-)

MOJO works also with the Goffertpark. F.e. Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam.

The show will be on the 7th as the local council have released 3 licences for the Goffertpark for 30k+ events wrt sound on june 7, 24 and 28. The latter 2 are for the Peppers and PJ. An behold the 7th is rumoured for a Stones show. Coinsidence? I don't think so...

The fellow from the french fanboard seems pretty sure it's the 8th in which case I won't go unless I can sell my tickets for the Who in Antwerp (which are still available)
Who launched the rumoured date of Erfurt june 8th? :-(

Re: The official Nijmegen 2007 thread

Well he's likely wrong.

As I said these licences are public domain. They are not allow to withold information by law. There are three licences. The Stones can not proceed without one of these. So either the date has changed since yesterday, or it is on the 7th, or it is not in Nijmegen...

Any idea when this show (if confirmed thursday) will go on sale?

Re: The official Nijmegen 2007 thread
Posted by: Peterh ()
Date: March 21, 2007 10:16

Well, I would be surprised if this would start this Saturday. Normally sales in the NL start on Saturdays for big shows. The Police recently was the first large exception which started on Friday. However, all big sales are published in national newspapers and emails on Wednesdays and Thursdays. This announcement is too late to distribute for this Saturday, so logic would tell you it will be next Saturday. However, RS.com sales could start anytime.

I would not be too worried for any sale in the rumoured big venues.

Yes Peter, there is no doubt that the sales for Nijmegen will not start this saturday, and most probably WILL start next saturday. I agree.

As far as I can see, and I've read the same conclusion by others, it is all thesame. Something I did not expect, but the website shouldn't lie I suppose...

Good luck,

So, it turned out to be the 8th and not the highly rumoured 7th. Oh how I wish I could be there - a general admission show with no seats - first come first served - reasonable prices - Rock'n Roll as it should be! I'm really sad I can't make it on that date.

Your right The stones tone these day's totally suck! Those Monster Twin's and those Vintage teles of Keef's sound like shit in the front row,Geez Leo Fender did'nt know what he was doing. As Clapton is so boring after the 3rd song i sit like the rest of the people and leave half way through the show He's awesome that slow hand!
