Absolutely loved it from the first time I heard it. I think its an amazing track. Its always in my top 10 for sure

'You Cant Catch Me' would maybe be a surprise inclusion in the top 10 too. Thats my favourite track from the pre-Jimmy Miller era. One of the few (if only) of their Chuck Berry songs that they never played live.

To Gazza: You Can't Catch Me would be a nice choice and the Stones sure have forgotten that they ever recorded it. But,I'm afraid, nobody has done it ever better than John Lennon on his Rock'n'Roll album - or do the merits for that go to the advanced studio technique and Phil Spector?
To Gimme Shelter: Could you be more precise? Does your Top 5 list include the benefit version for childrens playgrounds or don't you count that as a Stones work?

Lennon's version is superb (even though he recorded it under duress, as part of that legal agreement with Chuck after he ripped off the opening line for "Come Together") but I think the Stones version is untouchable. A brilliant recording technically and an amazing performance. I'd do jail time just to see that on a b-stage.
