Just saw the Pogues at the Avalon last night. GREAT show. Shane MacGowan looks and sounds better than he has in ages, and the band is excellent. The crowd was nutty. It was a wild, fantastic show.
They play again tonight at the Orpheum... if you live near Boston, and you're a Pogues fan, you are required to attend. They hit the stage in 3 hours, so get over there!! Last night was sold out, but it would have been easy to buy tickets before the show. Anyway, GREAT setlist, great energy, 2 hour performance, William Elliott Whitmore opened, it was awesome.
Some of the more intelligible Shane quotes of the night:
"'allo Boston, where are your women?" "I'm not gay!" (prior to putting on red satin-brimmed hat) "This song's called Sunny Side of the Street" (wrong, four times in a row) "It's great you can smoke in here" (?? hmmm...)
Sounds... don't forget SOUNDS!! Shane sounded much better than has has in recent years. If you watch the 2001 documentary, he could barely sing at all when he had his solo band (The Popes), and he has been overweight in recent years. While he was drunk as a skunk last night, he was MUCH more like the old Shane of yore... Bless the rest of the Pogues for putting up with him.
Anyone ever heard the Mojo Nixon song Shane's Dentist? Pretty funny. The chorus is "Shane's dentist don't work too hard, always at the pub/Shane says he ain't comin' back 'til they're down to a nub."

Greatest with Shane is how great he manage to sound even on one of "those" days, Funny enough I listend to "If I should fall..." just before logging on here now.
I wanted to go and see him in England at the end of last year but was put off after watching a video of them in concert of the same tour, Shane looked and sounded terrible. I would still love to see them but i don't want to be dissapointed.

Well who give a fat frogs ass what you think.
YES it is a Stones board, But The Pogues rock pretty darn hard
Title does say OT for Off Topic. That's the clue that it isn't Stones related . Hickorywind, maybe just ignore the OT stuff if you're not interested...
