Indeed, this does make good sense. There's also a couple of other factors in play here I think. Granted, they do exhibit an obsession with making the most money they can, but for the reasons you've outlined, it is somewhat unlikely that they're going to try and fill the better part of three months with nothing but stadium shows. So, the next best thing to do, is quite possibly fill SOME of those dates with smaller indoor shows. The shows might not necessarily be particularly remunerative, but the significant fringe benefit is that it would ingratiate them enormously to the European fanbase. It cannot be lost on them, and I'm sure it isn't, that within the confines of the ABB tour to date - Europe has not had its fair share. Not by any means. Ronnie summed it up in some interview or other last year in which he simply said "Yeah, we owe them some shows". Indeed they do, and if a proportion of those shows are in fact to be indoor shows at smaller venues - interspersed with the ubiquitous 50,000 to 70,000 seater stadium shows, then pretty much everybody comes out on top. They still get to rake in lots of $$$$$$, and Europe gets blessed with an as yet unquantified number of indoor shows at smaller venues, be they arena/amphitheatre/club - whatever.
What I say is pure speculation of course, I'm kind of thinking aloud, but it makes a vague sort of sense I hope. And there is also the curious business of these LEGACY memberships. I mean, WHAT exactly are rs.com envisaging for these sorts of memberships ? OK, they could put aside the first two or three rows FOS at stadium shows for Legacy memberships only, but then ... they could ALSO be envisaging these memberships giving folk first crack at tickets for CLUB shows for example ? They've gotta be used somehow or other, otherwise ... what's the point of them ? I suppose they could always be used to give you access to a year's worth of free guitar lessons from Keith or Ronnie ?
