What are chances of Page and or Plant touring US in 2007?
Posted by: Mongoose ()
Date: February 19, 2007 17:07

I'll always regret missing my one chance to see Led Zep in Greensboro, NC, in '75. My band had a gig that night, and, in those days, a gig meant being able to have some groceries on the table for a few days!

What's everyone's opinion on the possibilities of:

1. A solo tour by either Page or Plant in 2007
2. A Page and Plant reunion tour (less likely, but we can still hope)
3. The least probable scenario, obviously, but a full blown Zep reunion tour with John Paul Jones (maybe Jason Bonham on drums?)

Didn't page tour last year? Jimmy Page is doing a new solo album so he will probably tour sometime in the next year or so. Apparantly John Paul Jones announced that Zep would tour this summer, something tells me the story is made up!

Yeah, I think he did, and his website has been reporting a new album in the works. I always thought that J. P. Jones was the one all of these years stating that he would never have any part of a reunion.

If Zep did it "Stones style," with extra musicians, what do you think it would involve? One extra guitarist and a keyboard player are the first two that come to my mind....if one or both could sing some high parts, it would eliminate the need for vocalists, etc. Horn players would be an abomination.

Wonder which tunes would be what Jagger calls the "gotta do's" (Stairway, for example), which deep album tracks they would come up with for the setlists, would there be a new album (Mick again: "You gotta have some NEW songs....").

Fun to think about, but I wouldn't bet a dollar that any of this will actually happen. Then again, money talks....Father Time is moving on....if they're ever going to think about doing it, it better be soon.....

You're probably right on all three. If the big reunion actually came about, can you just imagine the ticket prices?

I heard that...

1) yes, Page is doing his first true solo album and
2) get ready for some live 1977 Lep release!

Both cases sound pretty sound to me. Zep can still put out their vaulted stuff and it would out-do anything the stones release now. The only exception would be a Stones vault set - which ain't gonna happen! I think they're foolish for not doing so.

I think they really belong into that "(un)neccessary reunion" thread. It's even worse to discuss about Led Zep in comparison to the Who - as started somewhere else. The Who contributed to music history at least twice as long as Led Zep. Don't get me wrong: Physical Graffity belongs to my desert island kit (and not only because of Ian's boogie).

Yeah, Outrider certainly counts as a "solo" release--actually that marked the beginning of Page's returning to form from a guitar playing perspective.

Where did you hear about the '77 Live release? That's interesting.

1. A solo tour by either Page or Plant in 2007

Plant for sure. his new solo album will be out and he's already announced a UK appearance at the Green Man Festival. i suspect a full tour will follow

2. A Page and Plant reunion tour (less likely, but we can still hope)

i'm sure Planty said on a recent documentary that he'd love to work with Page again

3. The least probable scenario, obviously, but a full blown Zep reunion tour with John Paul Jones (maybe Jason Bonham on drums?)

absolutely NO chance. and i firmly hope they don't lower their standards to do such a cash in. Zeppelin died with Bonzo. let sleeping dogs lie

1. Plant Yes...Page No

2. Slim to None

3. Zero

The speculation of a release of Zeppelin '77 material has been circling around the internet for the last 2 years. I doubt any good material is availible...perhaps the L.A. run, but that's pretty unlikely since Jimmy used a very well known boot track from that run on the 2002 DVD.

Don't get me wrong I'd love to see it, but the only viable possible '77 release will be a bootleg DVD of another pro-shot concert...the pickins are slim for those too.

Jimmy, JPJ and Plant have all recently hinted about more Zeppelin stuff in the near future...I just doubt its '77...probably (and hopefully) the '70 Bath Festival, or Japan '71 tour stuff..

This story/idea has been kicked around a lot lately on here. I think the general consensus is that the story in a british newspaper was a rehash of 5 yr.old story and Plant is the one who probably, has the least desire for a Zep reunion.

The 1977 release mention was audio (for a CD set), not video.
BTW, what 1977 audio is on the 2003 DVD set?

JaggerFan--I think what was being referred to was the video boot of Song Remains The Same which was one of the "Easter Eggs" (I think that is the term--lol). Forget where the video (I think the Garden) was from but the audio was from LA--one of the Millard shows. Apparently Jimmy went and got permission from Millards family to use it--if you have ever seen it, it matches up pretty well and is one of the cool "surprises" on the most excellent Led Zeppelin DVD.

Rattler may have it right---Bath or Japan, would seem to be more likely. Especially Bath. Then again, '77 was the one glaring omission from the 2003 releases.

As far as the reunion goes, when asked about why he didn't get involved with the Page and Plant project he said it was because they never called him. And he's made several other comments along the lines of 'they know my telephone number' and that he is willing to play with his old bandmates again.

Jones was happy with all the royalties from back catalog sales when Page/Plant did 2 tours without him. Page/Plant did all the work and Jones kept getting checks while doing the small projects he enjoys. This is what he told a friend of mine who did some work with him about 6 yrs ago.

Portion of a The Song Remains the Same from the boot "Listen to this Eddie" on one of the menus....several goodies on those menus.

Any more info or links re that possible Plant album? I hadn't heard that one.

Page and Jones are up for a Zep reunion, but Plant will never do it. Which is probably wise, too much time has passed, one member is dead, it would never live up to the band in its prime. I hope Page's solo album comes out and is followed by a tour, but I'm not holding my breath. He is notorious for talking about solo projects that never come to fruition.

Hey ohno. I saw Plant solo about two years ago. Good show, kind of a strange setlist. He did just Zep songs and songs from his latest album then. Nothing else from his solo material. He finally seemed to be at ease playing the Zep stuff. I wonder why he is so against a Zeppelin tour?

Plant won't do it for one main reason - respect for John Bonham.

Are you listening Pete and Roger?

They didn't call themselves Led Zeppelin...it was "Plant/Page".

exactly. which lessens the "respect" plant deserves for not touring as led zeppelin in respect to bonham..

lessens it substantially...down to ...........
