That's what happens when someone tries to act supercool by posing, gesturing, waving his arms around, loose singing et cetera - it can be fun, but not if it is overdone and hurting the music.

Not too bad IMO - I've heard worse...

Good versions prior to 1989 were few and far between for the simple reason that Keith tended to forget the minor issue which was that in order for the audience to hear you, it was relatively important to sing into the microphone.

Now, when they got it right occasionally, it was magical - Mick and Keith should sing into the same mic more often and they havent done that at all in the last 25 years or so

No actually it's not (just my opinion). Not in their case. I think they are about "being" and "living" the songs on stage like some gypsy carnival. The Stones-lifestyle you know.
This song is a rock song and the way they just spit it out in 1972, 73 and yes, I love those sloppy 75-76 versions, is they way it should be.

Waving his arms, taking his time, really trying to sing it just doesnt work. It's a very loose jam from the beginning and I think this is one of those songs that worked when he was on H. and simply doesnt now (I hope he's not dabbling too much with H.) simly because he's too old. His voice is too different. And works great on Thief in the night but not Happy.

Happy is a great song, but I have to agree it's pretty painful to watch live. In the 70's it was a knockout. Maybe Mick's absence on the backing vocals, maybe the pacing, maybe the silly posturing and poor vocals but this song sounds like absolute s**t live. Move on Keith!

Too heavily backed up, ruins it. I could also do without Keith's "ok Ron" prompting. The show boating is over the top too. Remember when Keith did not care if there was a camera in his face because he was into the rockin'! Now the camera is first and the playing and singing second. Sad.

i agree. i never saw it live 30 years ago but it was always a favorite song of mind.

it's kind of a "warhorse" now so i am sick of it from hearing it so much, but he really enjoys playing it and that's what's going to keep them touring. everything evolves, this isn't anything different.

KR's version of it with the Whinos live was very good...

The version from Saitama was great. The best, I heared this tour (on bootlegs).

I think keith's still a little bit shy, thats why he's throwing so many shapes and messin' with the vocal.

Who's Happy anyway? Is he on disability?

This version of Happpy is definitely sub-par, but I really dislike the Rio version of Get Off of My Cloud on YouTube... guitars are full of errors, rhythm is weird, Micks singing (yelling?) is monotonal. Blaaaand and sloppy.

It is sloppy. Sometimes I dont mind that - Hey its Keith! Sometimes I agree it is a bit of a mess when Keith plays Happy. I agree with the comment that the sound is swamped in Keys (not the Bobby kind!), horns (Bobby with too many others!) and nasty backing vocals (yes, that means you Chuck!). Ronnie is the hero on this one. I wish Keith would stop hiding behind all these other guys and thinking that they let him off the hook (thats before even mentioning Blondie!). Anyway, they are in their bus pass years and there cant be too much left in the tank - lets celebrate what we get from them still.

It sounds good to me. Keith's voice is pitched higher than usual in recent years, closer to the original.

Keith does seem a little skittish - probably got an earful before the show
about getting all the words right for the 1.5 million crowd plus webcast plus cinema deal
(was it Rio that was shown in the US cinemas?)

i don't think rio was shown in us cinemas...
it was a "get it live on the net from aol only" kinda thing, to my knowledge...

the l&g version knocks me totally out...
