ok, some might say it's not the Who with just Rog & Pete, but let's not go there. They had Pretenders in the USA, but I haven't even heard any rumours for Europe

Whoever happens to be rehearsed and availble I would have thought. Isn't that how it usually seems to work these days ?

well let's hope it's someone good, then. Probably not many old bands (like Pretenders) who'd be suitable for the slot, and not many new bands I'd like to hear. I wish for the Raconteurs!

Pete mentioned in the Press Conference webcast that very often the band themselves have little input as to who the support act will be. He did single out Shack (from Liverpool) as a band he rates and would like to feature as support for some of their dates.

The Zutons supported them in Bristol and were superb....

A lot of the shows in Europe last summer featured Casbah Club as the opening act. They're a new band featuring Pete's brother, and current Who band member, Simon Townshend and Bruce Foxton formerly of The Jam and Stiff Little Fingers. I talked to Simon when they played at the Hollywood Bowl in November and asked him about why they weren't opening any shows in the US. He said that Clear Channel (Live Nation) didn't let them as they said it had to be a more established act. He did say that it was a bit tiring being in both the opening band and the headliner. Perhaps Casbah Club will do more shows with The Who in Europe this summer.

I saw the Casbah Club on a couple of the UK shows and enjoyed them.
Wouldn't mind seeing them again.

We had a a jam band called Moe open for them here in the States early on. They were NOT a good fit but they did drive beer sales and restroom usage.

In the 2nd leg we got the Pretenders who performed under a banner promoting their box set which came out last year. They were the best I've seen them in ages though Chrissie was apparently very nervous. In a video on The Who website Martin Chambers tells Simon Townsend about Chrissie's reaction when asked to join the tour. Her reply was, "Who wants to see some tired old rock and roll band? (referring to the Pretenders)"

She was opening for THE WHO for goddsakes.

The great Canadian band 'The Tragically Hip' is opening some shows for The Who this month.

I'm sure the irony was intentional, as I'm sure she knew the camera was on.

Chrissie and The Who go back a long way. She was at the Shepperton Studio gig in 1978 (and in the crowd for the aborted "crowd" cover of "Who Are You"), and Pete was/is a big fan of the Pretenders.
