The Brian Jones demos from June 1969!?!?
Posted by: potted lobster ()
Date: February 4, 2007 01:52

June 1969: BRIAN JONES. Hartford, England, Cotchford Farm.
Rehearsals and recording of demos. Incl. (all unverified):
- Chow Time (BJ?)
- Has Anybody Seen My Baby (BJ?)
+ two blues jams

According to Zentgraff, this took place days before his death. I never knew.
Does anybody have more info on this one?

as they're listed by Nico as 'unverified', it effectively means that if they actually took place, theyve never circulated

I know, but the recording of the demo itself is not listed as unverified, meaning it took place. Whitch is new to me.

It's rumours!

Of course it's likely that Brian recorded music at home, he was a musician with tape machines... NOTHING has ever surfaced though!

As a scholar I know you can never prove something doesnt exist
from the lack or sources.

When and where did these alleged demos first get mentioned?

I'm guessing one of the many dodgy books that appeared during the 70's and 80's?

Brian Jones, dubbed 'King Of the Festival' at Monterey . . .

The demos were probably thrown into that bonfire the night he died . . .

I find it strange that they recorded with Brian just before he died,
I doubt the truth in it.

no, Erik - its demos that Brian was supposed to have made for future projects - it wasnt done with the Stones.

I would love to hear some solid Brian demos. Suppsedly he wanted to get back to the rootsier sound that (as I read) he said he felt the Stones had abandoned. wasn't his favorite tune back then "Midnite Hour" by Wilson Pickett. And he was digging CCR? Now I think that coupled with insider's info that he was cleaned up, plus that great last photo session of him in the stars & stripes shirt looking clear eyed could have been the beginning of a beautiful new band. Can you imagine parallel to Beggar's banquet Brian with a new band giving the Stones a run for their money?
What IMO Brian would have needed was the perfecvt mate. and I mean musical mate. Someone who brought out the best in him, and someone who could write and sing and someone who Brian would have felt at ease with. Brian was a star, but he was not the frontman, writer kind of guy. Somehow I imagine (and believe me I have no way of knowing this) that towards the end he had realized this and come to peace with it. Mayve a female singer would have been the ideal twin for him.

brian would also like to hear the demos! i cannot comment on how i know this at this time but with donations i may be able to tell you all at some unverifiable time in the future. Date and venue subject to change.

no seriously would be interested in giving them a listen, if they exist!

My only beef with the Brian loved CCR and Johnny Winter and wished HIS band still played roots music story is did any of these people actually listen to what the Stones recorded in 1968 and 1969? If that wasn't music made by a band that were back in touch with their roots I don't know what was.

Of course. Brian wasn't able to present ANY music in demo form to the Stones in 6 years time, the only song credited to Jones is a jingle written by an advertising firm, the music he recorded for that movie are just sounds, everybody around the Stones aknowledges the fact that he couldn't write music -but of course, just a few days before his death he recorded all these demos, which of course are hidden by the Stones to hide the fact that Jones was the genius behind it all, and that the Stones ordered his death...

So you reckon that "Chow Time" may well have been the magnum opus that finally pushed Mick and Keith (with some help from Anita of course - after all she was a witch) over the edge?

I just wonder if Brian's "Has Anybody Seen My Baby" demo featured a rap in lieu of a bridge.

Anita says there were many tapes with music. Nothing strange in that. He didnt write pop songs with Stones although he did contribute an awful lot and probably wrote parts and suggested chord changes, melodies etc here and there.

how much substantial can it get?

there are a few items around which never got into circulation because of the fact that it's sometimes really expensive to buy these things. and I mean REAL expensive. about 15 years ago I bought the Necrophilia-acetate for 6.500 GBP. that's way too much money to put this stuff out in MP3-format in the "Hot Stuff"-section for free. a few years ago I needed the money and sold it and now it's all out and you can buy a (nearly) exact copy of it on CD everywhere.

maybe the BJ-recordings will see the light of the day the very same way and you'll get something substantial, maybe not - we'll see.

So you definitely know that those demos are out there in the hands of a collector or are you guessing it?
