Was/is/always will be a legend. He's certainly a more acceptable advert for ASDA than Sharon Osbourne!!

I don't understand the hostility from some towards Mick Taylor. He's an amazing guitar player - one of the best or the best - what's the problem?

well..ASDA is what its known as to everyone. I would seriously doubt that hardly anyone knows its an acronym and I would guess that hardly anyone who doesnt work for them would know what it stands for.

Make that "was a very good, but rather boring guitar player", and delete the bits about best and I agree with you.

Time has a way of preserving the best and submerging the trite. When it's all said and done, when people no longer have the benefit of SEEING this band or experiencing its now waning charisma what will be left is the music...what has been released and what has been preserved by the bootleggers. There are now Stones boots that are 40+ years old, so there is no reason to think that they will soon disappear. The best of that music will survive and it will still be the coolest to listen to. To that effect Taylor will be part of the enduring legacy of the band and a permanent footnote to the history of RnR.

There's nothing boring about Taylor's playing. But it helps to make the effort to listen closely and get past the idea that power chords (fast or otherwise) constitute excitement or something worthy of holding your interest.

I can't for the life of me understand the fascination some people here have with MT,l mean he was a stone for less than five years, and he was dumb enough to quit the band, complaining about not getting songwritting credit, well can anyone here recall any of his "great songs"after leaving the Stones.
His "super group" with Jack Bruce and Carla Bley, lasted less than a year with J Mayall, about the same. Yes he was a great player back then, but lets face it he hasn't done much since. A lot of talent wasted.

that may be - that he's wasted talent since leaving stones- but so what??? we're fascinated by him because of his incredible contribution to the stones... is it hard to understand that? dumb decision in leaving has nothing to do with it.... its off the point

mick taylor was the man... no ifs ands or buts...

What makes you think power chords are the general benchmark for exciting playing!?

So, the question of...What has Mick Taylor done after leaving The Stones?

That question seems to dictate his ability?

Tell me, what has Jimmy Page done after Zeppelin? Does that mean Jimmy is washed up? He's nothing?

Pagey has Done albums and toured with the Firm, done a solo album and tour, toured with Robert plant a couple of times,No Quarter,Walking To Clarksdale,Toured with the Black Crows,Is about to release a new album, plus the rumoured return of Led Zepp.....oh yeah, forgot about Coverdale/Page.

I guess none of that can compete with playing in a barn in Denmark.

Pleased to meet you......

Does any of that body of work come close to his creation with Led Zep? Much of it is Led Zep with different personal.

The Golden years of The Rolling Stones, are the years Mick Taylor played guitar. There isn't even a close debate.

50-100 years from now, not many people will be talking about Steel Wheels, Dirty Work, BTB, etc.

No, they'll be playing the music from Jones and Taylor albums, or maybe the Harvey Mandel days? LOL

By then,I hope the world has better things to think about than who
the best guitar player in the Stones was.Of course, they will know the
answer to that,anyway.Its spelled K E I T H R I C H A R D S.......LOL

"BUT",he chose to fade into obscurity and do nothing to make a name for himself after the Stones.

Theres your BUT...........lol

Perhaps I can help you a little bit by repeating an old statement. Mick Taylor is in fact a great guitar player but he is absolutely no solo artist. He needs congenial counterparts to bring out the best of him. Therefore the Stones were great for him. Obviously he wrote some songs together with Jagger where he did not get credit for. But how many musicians are there who are lost on their own but shine brilliantly when they can work with a partner?
The question if Mick Taylor was dumb to leave the Stones or not has been discussed extensively on this board. From his contemporary point of view back in the 1970s it was not a wrong decision because nobody thought that the Stones would last for three more decades. If we knew before what we get to know afterwards we would often decide differently, wouldn't we?

Oh no,don't assume about me.I'm open to idea's.I'm not near as close minded as the Mick Taylor worshipers.

Really, pretend like you have never read any of my posts and tell me what a good MT cd is.I'll buy it and give an honest opinion.
