Ha! That's a good question, well, I don't have one.

Well, first of all, I don't have an SA-CD player. But as far as I know, SA-CDs contain 6 channels for 6 loudspeakers, like Dolby Surround Sound does in cinemas these days.
I have two SA-CD-hybrid discs, which have one optical layer readable for common CD players and the other with the SA-CD code, but I have yet to find somebody who actually has an SA-CD-player to find out about the difference in sound of the stereo and the 5.1 versions. I would have gone for the CD versions, but both Hans Theessink's "Bridges" and John Hiatt's "Master Of Disaster" were only released as SA-CD hybrids.

That's why I'm interested in whether anyone of you knows about the probable longeivity of these SA-CDs. As far as I know, common CDs have been tested to last around 80 years if treated accordingly. But how long is that for those two-layered SA-CDs?

Thanks for info.

Don't have one, have one SACD from the Stones T-S-M-Request.
Just heard from my kids that you can play them on a PlayStation 3 so maybe daddy help them to collect the money.

I bought a SACD player back in '02 when the Stones catalogue was issued in hybrid format by ABKCO. The sound quality on Let It Bleed, as an example, is fantastic.

I have a Sony SACD player which I also purchased in 2002 because of the Stones releases. As was discussed here previously, the Stones releases were only 2 channels. I would imagine the longevity of the discs would be the same as a regular CD.
Dark Side of the Moon was also released as a hybrid and the SACD layer is 5.1 and sounds amazing. The sounds of all the alarm clocks going off all around you at the beginning of Time as well as the cash registers at the beginning of Money are awesome. I also purchased Oasis What's the Story SACD and listening to it in 5.1 is also great. Instruments and vocals that are buried in the regular stereo mix are suddenly clear.
It seems most manufacturers are now integrating the SACD players in their DVD players and some can play back both SACD and DVD Audio. I know Sony has several DVD players that will play back SACD. One thing to note is that you can only listen to the 5.1 in analog so a digital coaxial cable or optical cable won't work.

yep...i have a sony dvd/sacd player....got it specifically for the Stones hybrid stereo disks. i have most of the stones sacd's except for a couple compilations.

all my other sacd's are 5.1 multichannels discs...pink floyd / the who /the police / elton john / billy joel and some samplers etc....

when the stones hybrids came out...sony packaged a stones sampler with their player. you can find 'em on ebay too.

IORR............but I like it!

Ditto. The sound quality is far better than standard CD but not quite as good as vinyl.

Recently got a DVD SACD sony player at a very good price. Excellent sound quality with my Stones ABKCO series, and for 5.1 SACd's it is a different experience - listening to 5.1 Tommy for instance. It has entirely different technology from general CD, so playing a SACD hybrid on a standard player is no indication - you're playing a remastered normal CD track.

Vinyl can't deliver the 5.1 sound of course - it really depends what you want.

What leads you to the conclusion that was the only SACD album I purchased? Or are you just being a smartass? (apparently, the latter.)

Read my words: "The sound quality on Let It Bleed, AS AN EXAMPLE, is fantastic."

In point of fact, I bought the entire catalogue of Stones SACDs the week they came out. LIB happens to be the best sounding of the entire lot. If you haven't heard it in SACD, you're missing something quite special, sonically.

Yes, I have one...needed a DVD player, and this one plays all formats of CDs to, and under $150. I bought the entire catalog of Stones SACDs, and the DSD vinyls, both Sets, European AND American. Only difference between the two is a different bar code. Its nice, but I listen to the Stones on vinyl or cassettes. LOVE that analog.

It's worth taking the effort to get a 5.1 surround sound hook-up and a dvd player with progressive scan. (My Sony 5 disc changer works great.)
Generally speaking, the sound is superior overall, for dvd's and cd's alike.
I cranked Brussels Affair the other day, and it even sounded new.
The sound on the SACD's is state of the art. It's almost scary.
The recently released Beatles LOVE super-audio is amazing.
I hope the Stones have plans to release their entire catalogue in this format.

I have one (1200W LG brand) but never use it for music, only DVD movies. If I put a CD in it I could quite literally blow my windows out if I wanted to. By the way, LG brand products are amazingly affordable for what you get compared to Sony. My son has some of their better flatscreen Hi-Def TVs. Anyone else have any feelings about LG brand stuff?

I own a tube based SACD player (well, analog tube output stage) together with a tube amp (4 x KT88). And believe me, it's better than any scratchy vinyl.

I have just been round the large record shops in Manchester and none of them had any Stones SACDs all said try the internet,so if I bought a SACD player I wouldn't have anything to play on it.
These shops I tried did have DSD remasters so whats the difference between SADC and DSD

I bought a Pioneer DVD/DVD-A/SACD player a couple of years ago for around $145.Also,it is region free. It's been well worth it.

Re: does ANYBODY own a SACD player

All of the 2002 remasters benefit from DSD technology. The first pressings have a normal cd layer and a SACD layer. The new pressings only have the cd layer. Both the early and late pressings use DSD technology on all layers.I believe that DSD is the technology they used to make the '02 remasters. The SACD layer gives you the option to listen in higher fidelity.

No, but it's obvious your lobotomy was a complete success.

Yea, just rub it in on yourself, my God, you're grumpy fellow
Of course that first post of mine was a joke.

YES, I have a superb Pioneer DV1000 home cinema system, which was one of the last top end non-separates based systems released to the market (to my knowledge) that plays myriad audio formats, including SACD and DVD-A.

Normal CDs play at circa 44.1kHz, SACD and DVD-Audio play at around 96.0kHZ, which provides more detail and high sound resolution.

My uncle did some work for LG,and he says it all depends on which models you're dealing with. They make some top notch stuff (including TVs and DVD recorders) but, they also make some junk (including TVs etc). When considering a big purchase,I highly recommend first doing research on the internet.Personally, the only thing I own by them is a DVD recorder/player - VCR combo unit which I love.It can record all formats of blank DVDs including double layer discs and when watching DVDs,it upconverts the content to near HD quality. You can't record copyrighted DVDs unless you do what I did which is buy a device from Star Development that removes the copy protection and run it between the recorder and a second DVD player (I also have a Pioneer region free DVD/DVD-A/SACD player, see above).

Yeah, sure.

Looks like poor Erik can dish it out, but he can't take it in return.

It seems that it is not the planning of our holidays that is the reason behind the request for tour-announcements. Reading the threads this morning it seems that the drop of our collective temper is a much more urgent matter to cure...

Yikes. That sounds like a fantastic setup. If you don't mind, can you tell me your equipment?

I play SACD's on a Sony XA-9000ES player and a Primare Pre/Pro combination, and as you would expect, the sound is extremely detailed, but it lacks a little warmth, imho.
