Piano instrumental - end of Dirty Work

Just curious if anyone knows who plays the piano instrumental (end of album)? I'm assuming Ian Stewart. They dedicated the LP to him according to the credits. This piano intro has the initial makings of a sweet blues song-anyone know if this matured to an actual track - officially or underground?? Kind of makes one wonder just how many "little start and stops" the Stones actually have locked away in their cache? Would love to see the vaults someday smiling smiley!

And while I'm talking about DW- where's "Sleep Tonight" rank among Stones ballads? Pretty sweet tune from Keith in this writer's opinion.

yes, that's Stu. Key to the Highway

what do you mean - whose ranking? it's an amazing piece of music,
and it intrigues me so much that so many people seem to miss how menacing the lyrics are.
(i don't mean you in particular, Crossfire - i've read quotes from people in the studio at the time
talking about what a "softie" Keith really is, sitting in the corner crooning this over and over -
that would scare the shirt out of me! it sounds like something the Midnight Rambler would croon
while lovingly sharpening his blade.)

Yeah, I agree, ST is one my favorites from Keith (ballad-wise). My "ranking" observation was strictly in the general sense-nothing specific agenda-wise.

Stu's part is a nice tribute from the band. ST is one of my favorites by Keef.

Sleep Tonight is a great song. I like Slipping Away but Sleep Tonight is much better, I wish he would play Sleep Tonight instead of Slipping Away so much.

I wish it was Derby time right now. It's about 10 degrees here and I'm freezing my ass off.

Wonder why ST almost never gets any attention on the wish lists. I agree the lyrics are beautiful. I always see the silent nighttime silhuette of a city before me with a moon that "grows cold" and all the stars. I think Ron overplays on the drums.

Really wished he'd play that one live.

btw, my Virgin Remaster of DW has an error during Stew's piano part. There is about one second break in it. My old CBS cd didn't have that one. Anyone noticed?

Really cold here, too - relatively speaking - our northern European friends would probably be wearing shorts!

I'd like to hear the full version of that piano coda at the end of Dirty Work. Does anyone have it? After all Stu did for them I wish they had paid him a greate tribute than a snippet at the end of an album.

good point, but have they paid posthumous tribute to anyone else at all? The questionable poetry reading/butterflies for brian... I think a comment made the night of hendrix's death... recently I guess they've come too fast to keep up, but it's an area the band generally steers clear of.

On sleevenotes :
Keith Harwood on "Love You Live"
Brian on "Through The Past Darkly"
Stu on "Dirty Work"

there have been a few in-concert 'tributes' such as dedicating a version of 'Route 66' on the No security tour to it's composer Bobby Troup, who had just died.

I thought that it was a wonderful way to pay tribute, to have a bluesy snippet kind of fade in and then just sort of float away. In some ways, it's my favorite part of that album.
