i just found this and am so glad - it's almost strange to hear it without a female backup singer...

cool Clip! the gituar intro sounds a little different from the ablum version. Its fuckign cool It could be that Im drunk. Im not totaly wasted but I was drinking earlier and that may be causing it to sound a bit distorted to me. I just sounds like theres an extra 'twang' sound to it.

Nice, Charlie seems to be a bit bored though... ;-)

And Mick too, he's doing a funny accent somewhere between 3.30 and 4.00, just to fool around, as I hear it. Cool clip.

Jesus Keith was only in that clip for 2 seconds i wonder why ???

Those older clips - Jagger was a good dancer back then. One of the rare occasions that Keith is on the left side.
One thing about the Stones - they all looked good with make up. Even Charlie wears the eyeliner pretty well.

Little Queenie - this is one of the greatest clips! I actually posted this a few months back, and I was completely in awe when I found it. I'm glad you reposted it. It deserves to be seen over and over and over!

Great clip - recorded less than a week after Altamont.
As usual, not enough Keith though.

Recorded one week after Altamont? So jagger managed to save al least a scrap of that flowing shirt/robe/cape thing. It does look like the threw an outfit together, made from 69 tour leftovers.
But again, the dancing. On tour nowhere does he do those elegant moves yet. It is actually quite rare that one sees Jagger actually dancing. I paid close attention one time when I was watching Ladies &Gents. Only in "Rambler" for a little bit, and when he loses it and goes crazy for a spell in ADTL does Jagger actually 'dance'. Of course it is ALL Jagger's dance in a way. From the second he walks out there, he is dancing. But most of it is miming, grimacing, mugging, posing, gesturing. I always notice it when he does what one would classify as a person "dancing".

I guess I am showing my age, but its still wierd hearing live WITH a back up singer. Never Liked it with Lisa, not that she doesnt belt it out, but just doesnt sound like the Stones to me.....

One of the all time great clips, especially the way he sneers 'Gimme Shell-tahh!" in the last verse

recorded on 12.12.69 at the BBC studios, the same day they cut the often-shown HTW for the Xmas day edition of Top of The Pops.

This version was broadcast in a one-off special programme called "Pop Go The 60's" on the final day of the decade, which featured several specially recorded performances by other artists. The show was shown again on Channel 4 in the UK on New years eve a few years ago - I think it was in 1999, thirty years after the original broadcast.

I luv it too...but
To me it sounds like Mick is singing live over the original album music track [without Merry Clayton]
and who's playing harmonica?
Check out Charlie's shirt...isn't it the one from Ya-Yas ?

Yes that's exactly what he's doing, so that answers your harmonica question. smiling smiley

Apparently they filmed a 3rd UK TV show that same day - Let It Bleed for a broadcast called "Ten Years of What?"
I don't think i've seen that footage.
They're wearing the same clothes for both the Gimme Shelter and Honky Tonk performances so probably the same '69 Tour gear for Let it Bleed too...

The two week period ending with the filming of these shows included the MSG '69 shows which made Ya Ya's, the Muscle Shoals sessions, Altamont, the release of the album Let it Bleed and finally these BBC performances.
Thats a helluva couple of weeks.

The Who also appear to be lip synching to me. It is too perfect a match to the studio recording of this song and The Who in concert certainly don't sound the same as in the studio. Townsend is strumming chords during parts when there are
single notes being played. He wasn't even trying to be convincing, he recognizes how silly it all is.

i think there is some additional guitar by keith that didnt make the album another layer and its brilliant - this was keith at his peak.

Playbacks sometimes had slightly different mixes, it could just be the sound via the video it's taken from though. I dont hear anthing 'extra' at all.

This clip has been taken from the BBC2 Sound of the Sixties series that was first aired during the mid 90's. You can catch Donovan fading out right before Gimme Shelter begins.
