What is supposed to have been recorded on those dates?

It is a real recorder though, but I have doubts that he plays the piano on Ruby Tuesday. I think it's more likely to have been Jack Nitzsche, same for the more complicated harpsichord parts etc.

What songs from Between the Buttons have marimba, I cant recall any from memory? He plays vibraphone on Yesterday's Papers.

Keith wrote it. Brian just played recorder on it.

We'll never know for sure. Keith, Mick, and Bill say RT is all Keith, but Marianne Faithful says its partially Brian's creation. Who should we trust?Keith probably wrote the words, but Brian obviously had a lot to do with the music, adding recorder and piano. Maybe they both came up with the melody and arrangement, which should have then led to a Richards/Jones credit. I think Brian had a lot to do with this tune because the Stones never played the likes of it ever again.

Sorry for the mistake above. Those are my words, not His Majesty's.

The piano is more likely to be Jack, not Brian, as are the harpsichord parts on the BtB's album.

There's no logical reason to suppose Brian wrote it, enough people who were there have said it's Keith's, but at the same time, I'm sure everyone helped in ways that dont warrant writing credits.

Are the albums from this time all labelled with "arranged by the rolling stones"? Song writing and arranging are two very different things.

All the credit listings I've ever read have Brian playing the piano on RT. Brian has also been credited with some harpsichord parts on BTB so I don't think your argument (that Brian didn't play piano on RT) is all that strong. I think there are many logical reasons to believe Brian helped write RT, one being that, musically, he was all over that track.

All credit listing have dave mason playing mandolin on factory girl, BUT, it's actually a mellotron and it's more likely to have been Nicky Hopkins... and so on... People tend to just copy other listings without really looking in to it. tongue sticking out smiley

There are photos of Jack playing piano, harpsichord and organ during this time. There are some of Brian, but no headphones in site, or he's busy reading. There's some of him playing cello, but yet theres no cello to be heard etc.

Basically it's far too solid to be Brian imo, I hope it was him as its very beautiful, but I hear jack on it.

Well, then I guess it's possible the recorder on RT was also a mellotron part played by Nicky Hopkins. Let's just take it a couple steps further and suggest that all parts supposedly played by Brian Jones from 1962 to 1969 were actually done by Keith Richards, other session musicians, or Nicky, Jack, or Ian via mellotron. That's right, Brian never played on a Stones track! But wait, there were the numerous tambourine parts in the early years. Maybe Brian played those. I mean, how hard is it to play tambourine? But that's impossible because Brian never attended those sessions. He was too busy impregnating all those girls back then; or when he was actually in attendance, he was lying on the floor reading books on botany or 'The Idiot's Guide on How To Lose Your Band' . . .

Err, no, it's definitely a real recorder on Ruby Tueday. As for the rest, you're just being silly now. tongue sticking out smiley

When this song was first played on the radio, the played a shortened version. The third verse was edited out to make the song shorter for AM radio.

Bill's book says Brian played recorder and piano on the song. I guess the only time the song was played live with Brian would have been the final European tour in 67.

I was 19 when the song was released.
The first RT restaraunt was in Gatlinburg,TN; started by a couple of guys from UT Knoxville, if the story I heard is true.
