Dead Flowers Vs. Let It Bleed
Posted by: ryanpow ()

I recognize that Dead Flowes is a really cool song, but for me this is an easy decision. I've always dug Let it Bleed way more. With Dead Flowers the stones are trying to make a coutnry song. Let It bleed is coutnry influenced but ends up sounding more stones-like. I think they were trying to achieve the same sound they had in Jigsaw puzzle but with a country flair. Im curoius as to what other IORR members think...

I like Dead Flowers better than Wild Horses.

yes I agree. The piano playing is more reserved I would say in Dead Flowers.

Its interesting that Wild Horses was brought up because If I had to rate WH and let it bleed, they would tie.

Let It Bleed isn't a tongue-in-cheek throwaway like Far Away Eyes or Dear Doctor to my ears.

All of them are fun to sing along to, though. But I think that Let It Bleed has more bite and genuine power than Dead Flowers.

Funny, both are found one after the other on Stripped, where Let It Bleed unfortunately IS given a weak, psuedo-country twist - like Dead Flowers.

I think Let It Bleed sucks the big one and ruins a near perfect album. winking smiley

I have to agree with that. On stripped Dead Flowers is better.

I reallly like the Hampton version of LIB. Bobby Keys sax and Bill Wymans playing make it really cool.

LIB is not only the title track but it is just such a crucial song on that album. It really ties it together IMO ; Its to let it bleed what the Rug is to Jeffery Lebowski's living Room

The studio version is not a crap song at all. I never cared for any live version though. Had they done it back in the day, though...

I edited the above post to explain. You should see it regardless of weather or you accept my analogy with Let It Bleed and its title track. Wooops! i forgot to mention the title: THe big Leobowski.

I would rate them about the same. Both good but not the best.
I don't see LIB being essential to the album. I think all the other songs are better except CH which is about equal. Not to knock these two. Those were the days when the weakest songs were just really good.
I think that this became the title track was just because they liked the name rather than because the song was important or their favorite. (Whether there is any link to Let It Be has been inconclusively debated at length on this site a few times)

Gimme Shelter, Rambler, Monkey Man & You Can't fortunatley send the album to dizzying unreachable heights.

Re: Dead Flowers Vs. Let It Bleed

my reasoning for why it is essential and ties it together is because the album is made of rock songs and acustic country, and LIB incorperates both aspects. and its in the middle of the album.

I dont think it was specifically calculated that way; more like it just fell into place.

I love both of them but "Dead Flowers" is my favorite between the two. One of my top 10 Stones songs.

Let it Bleed is better than Dead Flowers, but not as good as Wild Horses. IMHO

It's like comparing a beautiful blonde with a beautiful brunette. Both are excellent.

P. S. I like brunettes.
